First off let me start off by saying that my PlayBook, up until recently, was an indispensable tool and I still think from a functionality point of view there's still nothing as good on the market, even today.

My issues stem from poor reliability. My PlayBook has always had issues with logging into saved WiFi profiles, even at home I'm having to enter my 28(?) digit security key at least once a day, but sometimes 2 or 3 times, the PlayBook seems to dump it after its saved. It's worse with other profiles. In the last 3 or four months my camera has ceased working, I'm led to believe this is a common problem, and my speakers have crapped out completely. In the last week or two my email has stopped sending, I can receive but replying or sending a new email is impossible. Slowly but surely my PlayBook is bricking itself and I've tried everything to remedy it. But the icing on the cake is the neutering of the Bridge functionality, this really irks me as I see absolutely no excuse for it. Thank God the remote function is still there or my PlayBook would be completely useless to me.

It's such a shame that BlackBerry had a superlative device on their hands and didn't seem to know it. I know poor marketing takes the ultimate blame for its failure to succeed as it should have, but the amount of posts about the apparent lack of reliability surely didn't help, either.

Really, you should have sent it in for warranty work. The BBRY customer support is great. Even now people have received warranty work even when the warranty has expired. So check that out. F2 has a post with all the numbers. Don't just live with it...

    Hi Jonesy

Sorry to hear about your problems with your PB

I have two PBs (64Gb) at the moment, one of which is basically just contingency if the first one is lost, damaged or dies....

I have never had to re-enter any wi-fi passwords into the PB (update the passwords if necessary, of course....)

Wi-fi on my PB is set up for home, client's offices, friend's houses, multiple hotels - nary a problem (I do consultancy work, and rarely stay less than 4 nights a week in hotels....)

I haven't had any camera or speaker problems either - I don't use the cameras that frequently (generally use skype on a laptop on a day-to-day basis - occasionally video my mother's dogs for her amusement), but I use the speakers most evenings to listen to music

The only minor 'hardware-ish' problems I ever had, were actually software problems, caused by an Android app - when I deleted the Android app, and re-booted - all went back to working properly (this was a long time ago, before the last OS update)

Hope your problems are resolved soon

    Alex

PS Still hugely prefer my PB to my: iPad, iPad mini, Dell Latitude
PPS Still just wish I could SKYPE on my PB (because Skype was one of the reasons I bought the damn thing in the first place - early adopter, me!)

It's been in for warranty repair twice and twice the issues were not resolved. When my camera started crapping out I called to send it in again only to be told that despite it being a known issue my PlayBook was out of warranty, it's now around 2.5 years old +/-

When I get home I'll post a screen shot from my camera if anybody would like me to. It's the familiar white striped screen that looks like slatted blinds. I'd also like to add that my PlayBook's never been dropped or abused in any way, with a clean screen the thing looks brand new!

That's surprising they won't do anything, especially since it has history. Maybe you have to hit the right rep. Wonder if a security wipe would do anything...

I was going to suggest the security wipe as well. Don't think it will fix any hardware issues (speakers etc) but should clean up the OS somewhat.

Go a step further than a security wipe---do a full OS reload using a PC. Made a night vs day difference when my OS got corrupted a few months back. A lot of "hardware" issues are actually just software related.

I have been using my PB most everyday since it was released here in Ontario.

Its sits in the charger cradle on my nightstand 100% of the time.

I really only use it for web browsing and e-mail.

I have do have problems occasionally with it connecting to the home wifi.

We have about 10 other devices that connect to the wi fi router but for some reason the PB wont connect. The only way is to reset the router. Odd but thats the quickest fix I could come up with.

Lately when I need to enter a #on the keypad in landscape mode the keypad comes up black, only way to see # to enter is to switch to portrait.

I now have a MS surface pro and I am finding that it is much faster and reliable than the PB. Yes its much bigger and doesn't fit the hands as nice but for my use its seems to be slowly replacing my PB.
