I tried resetting by holding the volume buttons with the Power button for 15 seconds. It doesn't work. It turns off and back on but stays stuck on the black screen that says "BlackBerry Playbook".
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hope this helps (from the sticky):

    ISSUES AND WORK AROUNDS:
    ---------------------------------------

    Issue 1:
My Playbook is struck on the bootup screen?

Resolution that worked in few cases:
    Power off the Playbook.
Plug in the USB cable into the PC and fire up the Desktop Manager.
Plug the other end of the USB cable in to the Playbook.
Hit the power button on the PlayBook.
Desktop Manager should detect the 'BlackBerry Playbook' and should request you to download new software.
Download the software and update the OS on the Playbook.
Disconnect the Playbook when it is finished installing updates.
Power On the Playbook and it should take a while to reboot.

    OR

If the above process didn't work you do a hard reset by pressing and holding the power button along with volume up and down keys.

I'll try thanks for the reply.

Anyone else had this problem, and what was your solution?

I had this same problem for several hours yesterday.

I unboxed it, set up wifi, downloaded the OS update, installed the OS update, then after the install, it kept getting stuck in that startup screen with the floating colored baloons.

After calling support twice (neither time helpful), starting and restarting the PB several times, etc., the thing finally seemed to fix itself. After I hadn't touched it for awhile, the screen blinked, then said, "Installation is complete."

    From then on, it worked.

Our inclination is always to keep doing things to fix it. You may want to try just doing nothing for an hour or so. It worked for me.

This is what I did when i had the same problem and it fixed it. It essentially downloaded a debrick update that made the OS 1705 as opposed to 1690. I am now running 1710 and haven't had any issues since I did the desktop manager update. You might want to look at the stickies on the playbook forum page for more information.

Also just to note, from previous cases I've read, It's suggest to hard reset the playbook and leave it alone for at least 30 minutes. Then try the steps and it should work.
