I tapped on an App and the PB froze.

I have tried to restart it, then reboot but it only comes back to "BlackBerry PlayBook" screen but no further.

The battery was fully charged when this happened.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening?

    Many thanks

not sure exact reason, but try holding power button down till it turns off all the way. if you already tried that then let battery drain charge it and turn on when fully charged. had this happen to me when mine was rooted, but always got it back.

Just for more info: What app?

As suggested try to force a restart:

To fix an issue, try these in order:

Restart using the Battery Icon and press Restart

Press and hold the Power button for 10-15 seconds. Then leave it for 20-30 seconds and see if it restarts.

    To REBOOT:
Press and HOLD all three keys for about 10 - 20 seconds: PowerOn, VolUp and VolDown. Start with the PowerButton. Keep holding past the 3-choice options screen. If you hear a shutter type sound, you've taken a Screen Shot and probably missed the PowerButton.

    How old is the unit?

    If you still have warranty:

The PB has a one year warranty to the original purchaser. It also has 90 free Tech support. I do not know how Rim deals with "quasi-tech support v. warranty"

And if nothing else seems to work

    Try the Debrick method....

Perform a backup of your pb if you can using Desktop Manager or, at least, manually coping any unique data, photos, voice recordings, documents, etc.

    1) Turn your playbook OFF by holding down the power button
    2) Let your playbook sit for about 10 minutes as earlier suggested.
    3) After letting the PB sit (and still powered off) open up the Blackberry Desktop Software (the latest version)
    4) Once the Blackberry Desktop Software is opened, use the USB Cable and hook the PB to the PC.. THEN power on the Playbook
    5) A screen will show on your computer showing that the device cannot be found
    6) Click on Update. It will take awhile

    Hi F2

    Thanks for the information.

The only way I can 'turn it on' is by pressing the power button (I don't get the three options). The red light comes on, the unit comes on but it stays at the BlackBerry PlayBook screen (see photo).
PlayBook froze and now it will not restart or reboot-img-20130904-00447.jpg
The app I tapped on was a game app (billiards) which I have never had a problem with.

The unit is not quite 2 years old.

I will try the Debrick method later.

    Cheers

. Three button reset no longer required since OS2. Hold down power button only for 20 sec does same thing and much easier.

    Could someone please verify this.

I was under the impression that holding the power button down on its own, did a 'clean' shutdown, wheras the three-key press was a forced restart - akin to a battery pull.

No idea. I may certainly be spouting old info.

There are also those that say only ONE Volume button and PowerOn is needed (I'm not sure if that ONE volume button is the Up or Down).

Someone have a Knowledge Base article reference?

    Seems like they were right:
KB26712-How to use the BlackBerry PlayBook power button

The BlackBerry PlayBook power button serves serveral functions.

Stand-by - Click the Power button for less than 2 seconds. The BlackBerry PlayBook screen will turn off while background services, including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, will continue to operate.

Shutdown/Restart - Click and hold the Power button for 2 seconds. This will bring up a prompt with the options to Turn Off or Restart.

Forced Power Off - Click and hold the Power button for 10 seconds. This will force the BlackBerry PlayBook to power off.
    Regards.

    No Offence taken, I hope.
    Shouldn't have doubted you

Just that I have always thought you had to use the 3-button method for a forced reboot - never read the manual, just what I've been told on here, or similar...
