This happened completely randomly and out of the blue - the PB suddenly stopped functioning/responding to any sort of input, so I did a hard reset, factory wiped it and now I am at the intro/setup screen. Touch input does nothing to it. Is there anything left I can try to possible resuscitate it?

Are you using the desktop manager? If your operating system has been corrupted that will have to be corrected before anything can be accomplished.

I used Desktop Manager and Link to reset the OS the factory. Is there anything else that can be done? I believe they download the OS from BlackBerry's servers so I don't think it is dependent to whatever I have on my PC.
I didn't think about calling because I'm assuming RIM would just laugh me off the phone. The thing is over two years old now and WAY past warranty. Do you think they would actually do anything?
So the screen was still unresponsive after the hard reset? Have you ruled out the battery going completely dead and requiring replacement? Connecting to the PC (ie. for DM) wouldn't provide enough power if the battery was also dead, so the touch screen still might not work.
You could always try calling BB customer service but don't be surprised if there isn't any support for the PlayBook. I wouldn't be expecting any, certainly not for physical repairs, but maybe they can tell you why it may have suddenly died.
Sorry, I should clarify. The screen does turn on, however the PB does not respond to any touch inputs and so I can't get past the initial setup screen. I'll give calling Blackberry a shot but I have low expectations.
I have the same issue. Was going to restore an older version to check on something but that's another story.
Was having trouble connecting to the link, so reinstalled desktop manager. Still couldn't connect by usb- clicked repair, no luck, so let it update the software. Now stuck gets stuck and won't "swipe left to continue" , every now and again it lets me swipe one screen but can't get it to finish. Multiple resets, tried another computer. Still nothing now won't connect.
I just managed to get through-this was on the second computer but not so sure that was the issue- may be an older versions of DT mgr.
I just left it on the table while I worked, tried a swipe every now and then. If nothing disconnected cable and reconnected. I have no idea if that did any more than sacrificing a chicken but it was something to do. Eventually go to last screen (2 hours total) after the interminable video intros and got connected. Now doing a roll back.
Bump. Given the recent string of dead playbook threads, someone may have heard of this issue or had thought of a way to revive it. But I'm guessing a dead screen is a dead screen...probably something to do with the touch/digitizer.
What do you mena by saying dead screen.
Is it stuck on the flying bubbles?
It loads to the language selection but the touch is completely unresponsive. However the volume control, power on/off buttons still work. Does it sound like it's just the digitizer/touchscreen that is broken and it is not a software/internal problem?
Sounds like a real possibility that it might be hardware. You say you tried a hard reset and by that did you mean a three finger reboot? You said you hooked up to a computer running BB Desktop when you are trying to restart? Have you tried this just one time? Maybe help you with software update if necessary. You say it doesn't it doesn't respond to touch and does that. also not respond to swiping? If you possibily could get it to bluetooth you could load a mouse and possibly get that to click. But you probably don't see a gear yet. If you hook it up to the computer now does the computer see the PB?
Yeah unfortunately it's stuck on the language screen. Bluetooth won't be set up yet and can't without passing by it. I've tried to reload the software a few times with Link/BB Desktop but the same thing happens - langugage screen with no touch/swipe input functionality. Computer still sees the PB when I hook up to it and can access whatever files are stored on it.
It's a real gamble but it seems like the device is fully functioning minus the touchscreen/digitizer. I was thinking if I picked up a $30 digitizer I could still use/resell it for $60 or so, but if that isn't the issue then that would be a whole waste of time/money. Does it sound to you like a broken digitizer is about the only thing wrong with it?
