Hey guys. I just switched from a 16Gig to a 64Gig. I went to load the 2.1 Beta and nothing. Changed to Developer mode and entered PIN on Interweb page. No update! I amd at a loss. I can't restore my data as DM says it is an older version of the OS. Any ideas? Why no 2.1 Beta?

I've been trying to do a wipe on my wifes PB & reinstall .840 for a couple days now, DM manager never finds the .840 beta... only tells me .358 is current, even after signing up for the dev beta on both sites. so now she is stuck with a "slow playbook" until they either release 2.1.. or fix the whitelist!

try using a uk or usa proxy. here in Hungary I didn't receive any beta update notification, but after I set up a us proxy, my notification was there in seconds. you can find proxies using google. they are very slow, but once you get the notification, you can complete the download without the proxy

What does "I went to load the beta and nothing" mean? You don't need developer mode, but you do need to enter your pin to register for the beta. After registering, go into settings and then check for updates under software updates.

I mean, I registered for the Beta. No notification. Checked for updates and it says I have the up to date version. I did this last night and even this morning no update

I've read a number of people having issues over the last couple days, so I expect there is some issue with the update server, or RIM has taken it down for some reason!

Are you sure you registered your new Playbook under your exisiting BBID? Have you then reinstalled your existing apps (you may be asked to confirm you wish to associated your new PIN to your existing PIN)

If you've done that and still can't access the beta, you can always use wifi to transfer your existing data from one PB to the new one, via your home computer.

I can confirm I've whitelisted a few times since yesterday and still nothing. Why is the page even up if they took the beta off the servers?

Maybe they want the 24 hour period to expire for everyone. Can only mean 1 thing if true...

If that's the case why not just take the page down?

Were you on WiFi when you registered? It doesn't work if you were using the Bridge.

Bear in mind that with the Dev Alpha update being pushed out as well as a whole slew of new dev tools, the 2.1 beta just might not be that high a priority for RIM today.

Besides, maybe the real thing's coming tonight?

Good call on going to a 64g PlayBook. The upgrade will arrive within days...well within a week or so...no later than Q1 of 13. Promise

Hey, stop blaming the Left hand for Rim's mistakes. We dextrous lefties are not the cause of Rim's missteps. They are sinister without us!

And which 13 would that be? 2013 or 2113?

I tried three days in a row to get the 2.1. It worked on the third try. The first two tries were weekend days and I just assumed that was the issue. Just keep trying.

I went to "Switch Devices" on the BB Desktop software. My 16 GB wifi playbook has OS 2.0.1.668 that was open for a brief window while my new 32 GB wifi playbook can't "Switch Devices" from the .668 version backup. The desktop software is refusing me the transfer because it's a lower OS version (2.0.1.358) I am at a loss because I can theoretically transfer files via wifi, but my many wifi settings, browser bookmarks etc can't be carried over... and would only provide a half baked solution. I am a long time BlackBerry lover, however this is a huge FAIL for RIM (IMHO) and not acceptable, considering many have recently purchased a larger capacity PlayBook only to be met with the same situation... Called the support line and requested my 32 GB be opened to the .668 OS so I can transfer my data...

That's unfortunate. When upgrading to 2.1.0.840 beta, downgrading to 2.0.1.358 was no longer possible. The only downgrade route was to use CFP or Dingleberry and a Debrick image of 2.0.1.668. That would lock the Playbook in to 2.0.1.668 as a release version, even with a security wipe and upgrade. That solution would probably work for you, but I've heard the 840 beta is no longer available.

Maybe using Dingleberry and the 668 debrick image (use search to find) you can get the OS up to 668 and restore your files and settings.

Perhaps I'll try that when I can get some free time. The only other option is wait for an official update that will bring it to a higher OS... 2.1 should be out any year now, followed by OS 10 in 2020 LOL
