I do believe that. I too have many friends working in that company. I have also heard that LTE 1.5 GHZ is in production still.

I read somewhere a couple of weeks ago that Blackberry was ready to release BB10 for the Playbook but was "sitting on the fence" with it because they didn't feel it was good enough to be put on the PB's?. If that's the case then just scrap it and start fresh with a new tablet.

I'm not going to fret about it until I hear something concrete from Blackberry.

I love my Playbook and use it daily, but I'm not betting on any newer version coming out in the future. Maybe the BB10 software update will hit or maybe they had to change their minds, but I am betting on a Phablet type device coming out before December that will be larger than a phone and smaller than a tablet. Just a thought.

They lost money on this tablet because of their lack of execution and plan. It is their own fault because it really is pretty decent hardware. It gave birth to BB10 and the Z10. I believe if they released BB10.x for a new higher spec'ed PlayBook 2 that mirrored the Z10 (minus phone calls) it would be successful if marketed correctly. I personally know several people who want my existing PlayBook after playing with it for a while. Their only holdbacks? My b1tching and complaining about it's quirks and lagginess (and lack of apps) and the fact that they can't get one now in retail stores unless they go scavenger hunting. When they see it working with full bridge on my 9810 they freak out. I temper their enthusiasm saying that with the Q10 and Z10 BlackBerry castrated the Bridge functionality much to their bewilderment - mine too in fact.

If some iteration of BB10.x comes to the existing PlayBook, I will be very happy and do my part to help share the Koolaid with potential converts. There are a lot of people who don't want Apple or full on Android tablets (not phones either). For BlackBerry to pretend this isn't a viable way to make some money just screams how they got into this mess in the first place. BlackBerry is their own worst enemy. It's not as bad as Microsoft though but still, it's painful to watch and be a part of.

BB (the company) lost a lot of money on the PB. The indications are that they have given the tablet market over to the iPad.
It is unlikely that they will do anything but minor upgrades to the OS in the future.
In the US it is almost impossible to buy a PB in the stores: all major stores have given it up.
To save face BB just keeps quite on the future. Any vocal comments will have bad press.

The WiFi model (released April 2011) was the infamous financial debacle. They stuffed the (really expensive) retail channel with it, complete with its half done 1.0 operating system and put-the-engineer-in-charge-of-marketing campaigns that screamed "Flash" and "Multitasking". Sales started off ok, then fell through the floor. The company took a massive write down on the value of inventory in the channel and in warehouses. This led to price cuts, which caused sales to pick up, ala the HP Touchpad. Eventually, RIM started running out of inventory as a result of cost cutting and opted not to make more models of the 16 GB version. The 32GB and 64GB versions' fates haven't been officially announced, but judging from their lack of retail availability, BB is also sold out here.

The LTE (released Aug 2012) is different. It's sold through business and carrier channels (much less expensive and inventory risky), focused on corporations vs. consumers. It sells for a higher price point, is not heavily advertised and definitely a 'back seat' product to the Z10 and Q10.

In short, PlayBook still 'lives', but in a very muted way compared to the way Mike and Jim pushed the WiFi version out the door.

Now we have RIM trying to recover from it's exile to the also rans in the phone and tablet field battling at a different Waterloo to succeed against a powerful group of antagonists led by Apple. Will Thorsten be like Napoleon and leave Waterloo to go into exile? And the restoration of the previous regime.

Great way to do business, just keep quiet that way no one can say anything bad about you or short your stock.

Not even a positive word to those faithful who purchased at launch and after. Not even any word of support or update from the CB crew who seem to have the ear of BBRY. I guess if you want a cheap gaming device it will work but with the lack of new apps or even support it has become an expensive toy.

The problem is not that the PlayBook can't be a "client"... it's that the Bridge SERVER software on the BB10 doesn't do what the Bridge software on old OS7 devices did: allow a PlayBook to connect via Bluetooth as if it were a Web server and "surf" the various data on the OS7 device.

The real problem here is that there is no robust Bridge SERVER on the BB10 handhelds that the PlayBook (even running Tablet OS) could "connect to".

If BB10 Bridge SERVER worked and there was a Tablet OS 2.1 Bridge CLIENT update on the PlayBook to work with it, I might not even bother with BB10 on the PlayBook... all I need is Bridge, like it was, and maybe even better.

Agree... I can live without an upgrade to BB10 on the PlayBook (if I have to). But I'd like to get back the functionality that BB7 Devices provide using Bridge.

Isn't that supposed to be only marketed in developing countries to give them an affordable BBRY alternative? You might as well buy a used Storm or something...if you want to bridge...
