I responded to a question on the 'Ask a Question' Forum a week ago and had hoped that thread might have been moved to this Forum. I'll add the link as it is is along the lines of your inquiry and I also wanted to find out more.

Ghost Commander and a few other file managers will show the date that pics were taken or last modified. Also, if you use Advanced Camera (or Android Camera) you can set it up so pics taken with the app are named by the date and time they were shot..
