Recently noticed a huge drop off in browser/internet speeds on the playbook. I've run some speed tests to compare it to other devices in the house, and all other devices are achieving results far superior to that of the PB. My internet provider allows up to 20mbps DL, and i consistantly get between 8 to 18 Mbps DL and 50 to 82 ms on the ping test, and around 0.46 Mbps for UL on my laptop (on a wireless connection). Is it really acceptable to be getting 1.47Mbps or lower DL and 779 ms or higher ping? I'm on the latest OS version, dont have many apps taking up ressources, and clear memory every now and then to try and improve things, but nothing has helped so far. I've also wiped the whole thing and reloaded the most current OS, which helped a bit, but i'm now back to painfully slow page loading. How can I improve this???

Have you checked your router connection ?

On Rogers cable, just measured at Ping 124ms, DL 23.21Mbps and Up .50Mbps
    and I get reasonable performance.

Hi, I'm not sure that such a big difference can be down to just the PlayBook. I also have 20Mbps broadband, and I notice a slight difference between the PB and the laptop, but it is only marginal. Could it be your WiFi route? I recently updated mine, and have noticed a huge improvement in performance even though my broadband service is the same. Maybe double checked you settings on your router and your PB...?

Thanks for the reply. I just moved into a new house about a month ago and set up a Shaw network for the first time, so im assuming the modem/router they supplied is fairly new and up to date (SMC8014wn if that means anything at all to you). All my settings are correct as far as i know.

Are you on g or n or does it make a difference? Is the PB in a case and are you holding it? What LAN wireless speed and signal strength do you have?

I got 24.79/3.42 with 21 ms ping on Comcast using Motorola 6120 modem and a Zyxel MWR102 travel router which only supports g.

Router is set for mixed g/n, no case on PB, i hold it with two hands (dont normally prop it up) and it always has two to four bars of signal strength. I normally use it in a room very close to the router.

When you are connected to your router(via wifi), goto into settings, WiFi then tap on the little wifi symbol with a question mark bottom left. Then from Diagnostic Information, select WiFi Information. What is your network type and connection data rate?

Well i was impressed with mine this a.m. cruising up centre st. on Ctransit bus just north of the bridge and the PB locked onto a 'ShawGo' router AND I was able to successfully lite up a AristoC' forum thread before we got of range turning west on 21st !

SO BBPb does perform very well IF the router is set-up properly (and ...as an ex., not olde tech considering there are said to be some inadequate shawgo/cisco routers out there) !!

    imho

My connection data rate is 65 Mbps, and my network type is 802.11g/n. So it shouldn't be operating as slowly as it is

hmmmm, maybe it is one of those apps out there that only work when ya are forced to allow them full slate of permissions and they're constantly sniffing your privates and constantly sending out what they find !!?

OK. A little more info. What is your signal strength and security type? Just reran mine and with signal strength of -35 dBm and WPA2 personal got 25.13/3.48/23 ping. This as good as I get on my laptops. But I am only 3 feet from the router. The router is running g at 65 Mbps.

Okay, so I just security wiped the whole thing again and started fresh. Things seem to be back up to normal speed! I'll remain cautiously optimistic for now, as I've done this before only to have it bog down eventually. I really hope this works in the long term; I shouldn't have to wipe the device every month or two just to keep the browser running at acceptable speeds.

My signal level is currently -62dBm, WPA2 personal. Just ran another test after the wipe, got 14.75/0.42/48 ms ping. Makes me happy, but still not convinced it will last. Thanks a lot for all the feedback though

Sometimes taking out the garbage is the answer. If it happens again try running speed test with a different browser or just cleaning out the browser.

I'm getting DL of 6649 kbits and UL of 430 (averages). My router lists my PB's IP address at 65 Mbps, with signal at 100%. It's slightly slower than my HTC One V phone, which tests at 7286 kbits DL and 652 UL, ping time 37 ms. The HTC runs on half a gig of ram, if that means anything.
