Since Blackberry is unable to work with the Playbook hardware and they are withdrawing support, why don't they at least open the platform so that android can be ported to the device? HP failed with the TouchPad and so made it open. Users happily used android on the TouchPad after that.
We are sideloading android apps to the Playbook anyway. This will only improve the end-user experience and satisfaction, since the hardware is so good already.

Well when Rimberry starts giving two chits about end user experience you'll have your answer. Till then you get what you got
Because there is likely proprietary code related to the security of the device and it is still being supported and is being used by certain companies. By making it open source, you're allowing people to find bugs and exploit it.
Ditto to what Andrew4life just posted. There are many companies, govt agencies, hospitals, law enforcement and industry that are currently using PBs and on BES as well. I still see them still in use at one of our hospitals. No way will BB open them when security is still a necessity for their use.
