Did the screen crack due to a defect in material or workmanship or was it user error? Warranty is not guarantee.
OMG! how did that happen? Did it get dropped?
Just wondering how strong the screen is...
I was playing Cut the Rope when it cracked. I guess I was pressing the balloons too hard.
Darn Mongo! Wouldn't think one could crack a screen playing a game!:)
While I know this isn't going to make you feel any better, you are my new hero. :D
Post pictures of the broken screen with Cut the Rope on it. :p
Seriously!?!?!? I heard the game was good but WOW!!!
go to ifixit, its not too hard of a fix, parts aren't that expensive either. Worth a shot even if your not a tech person. I could help on Skype if you need. I've been doing this stuff for years and years.
There are 2 ways to look at that. First way, and RIM is most likely gonna go with this, is that it's physical damage, it's the customer's fault. They MIGHT offer a repair for a cost, figure in the 100 range. Second way, it should NOT have broken that easily. The screen is very durable and it SHOULD be able to take some pounding, since it's designed to be touched. In that case perhaps your screen DID have a weak spot, which would be a defect. BUT don't count on convincing RIM. However, it's worth a shot.
Wow, can't imagine how much force it would take for that to happen. My 4 yr old plays the bubble wrap app all the time on her PB and she pounds the outta of it.
GL, if RIM would charge around the ballpark of $100, I would try fixing it myself.
golden. just golden.
I'm taking a total guess on the repair cost, based on my knowledge of how much laptop screen repairs cost. Usually they cost more than it's worth!
Here's a place that sells PB screens. (60 or 65)
Playbook - Cellular Accessories | Mobile Accessories | Cell Phone Chargers | Cases | Cell Phone
If you try to replace the screen yourself get one with the metal frame already attached. The digitizer is stuck to the metal frame with two different types of adhesive. Some double sided tape and some other type of adhesive. One this website you will see two digitizers listed. With and without metal frame attached. Spending the extra for the right part could save you a lot of trouble.

I don't have any experience with this seller but there are not many to choose from.
I have said it before with similar posts. Why not use your house insurance? After all you did "drop it down the stairs", yes?
unbelievable, I been playing whack-a-mole for so long with my PB but the screen still the same at it was when I bought it the first week it was released, do you really have PB? the screen of PB is very durable,
The screen is tough, but I got a little scratch from rubbing to hard with a towel. Must of had a piece of sand in it. Mostly I don't notice it untless I look for it. But it can be scratched.
Too bad about the screen, maybe you can ebay the playbook and buy another as alternative. There are folks that would buy it too fix or use as parts for their own.
STUPID BALLOON ARRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd try calling RIM. It'd be an uphill battle, but there's no way playing Cut The Rope should have broken your screen unless you were playing it with a hammer.
I don't expect you guys to believe me but it is what it is. I didn't poke the screen or tap it, my thumb was in position waiting for the candy to fall so I pressed down the balloon real hard when the candy fell.
I'm sure the screen is pretty durable when it comes to dropping but it happened to me with a hard press. I'm not asking for a refund. I love my PB but to me this is one of those borderline warranty issue. Should RIM honour this?
Never hurts to call..
