I am hearing that the next rumored update is 1.0.9 and not 2.0. As for the 2.0 it is is still scheduled for October release. Can anyone please confirm or deny this?

( As for the October deadline this is coming from the mentioned "Oktoberfest" by someone at RIM who had previously "correctly" hinted at the release of the big game "dead space" )

September is slotted internally as the Playbook "re-launch" whatever that entails is up for speculation.

Or September 1.9, October 1.10, November 1.11 and December 1.12.

Maybe 2.0 is coming at just after midnight December 31, 2011 but before 00:01 January 01, 2012. Which in theory would make it 2.1

With today's update a new feature called differential update has come to Playbook. That will allow small updates which means small incremental updates will came next days. So I am not expecting big update like 2.0 at once, futures updates will small incremental updates.

...so no more big update and back to regular programming...

...make sense anyway... otherwise, what is the use of this "differential" update...

I'd think differential or SMALLER updates would also take pressure off the servers. Fewer bytes to transfer means folks are on and then off making it easier for others to do the same.

Hmmmmmmmm? Well it sure did when I was drinking the other nite.

Actually, 1 would represent the year, 2011 with .9, .10 etc., the month.

So in theory, 2 would be released in 2012, but it's impossible to have 2.0 since there is no 0 month, so a January 2012 update would have to be 2.1.

This way, people that wanted monthly updates, would know exactly when the next update would be.

I wonder if, OS V1.8.25 will be released today?

    No, nobody can.

So, is this rumored 1.0.9 coming from a post where someone said they had reps showing them BBs and PBs and one guy's PB was on 1.0.9 or is there info from something else as well?

Because it doesn't mean that will be the next release, he could just be field testing...

Agreed about 1.0.9. But 2.0 prediction for "October" is from someone at RIM in twitter.

It is just a number. Engineering staff can call it 1.0.9 and the PR people can call it whatever they want.

My guess would be Android beta with 1.0.9 THEN the relaunch with the native apps and release version of Android would be 2.0. Just my guess, no facts to base that on except past experience.

You can bet the android player will be pushed out to developers before it hits the public releases. It's not going to be terribly useful to the general public if no developers have had a chance to port anything for it yet

i've finally given up on android player or any good apps. tired of waiting for something that should have been out by now. just bought my wife an ipad and getting ready to ebay my playbook and buy me an ipad. i really like blackberry products but waiting on apps for phones and playbook seems to be a recurring theme. i personally don't have the patience for playing the waiting game anymore.

(On top of the two I have already). What do you want for it? According to the Android/iFanboys they are nearly worthless so I'm expecting a good deal.

    To the OP:

I heard that 3.0 will be the next major release. Anyone care to confirm or deny?

How would you like it if your local newspaper or anchors said "we heard there was a tornado coming, can anyone call to confirm?" Useless thread.

Furthermore, even if someone did "hear" something from inside RIM, it doesn't mean anything. Remember Lazaridis, the CEO, saying "email and Android player will be out this summer?" Summer ends in less than a month. Don't hold your breath.
