I discovered an alternate way of waking the playbook out of standby. You simply hold your finger on the screen for about 2-3 seconds. This is much easier than swiping on the screen and also keeps your screen a bit cleaner. This method also works on the side bezels too.

through further investigation, all that is needed is a tap on the screen!

A single tap will wake it when the PB is charging. When not charging, you need to swipe about the 3/4 of the screen in any direction to wake it.

Yeah, only works like he said. A tap would be nicer than the swipe.

A tap is too easy to accidentally invoke. It unit would be turning on too often when not intended, like when moving it or carrying it. The swipe has to be more purposeful.

I use a leather cover, maybe that's the reason I would prefer the tap. I can't wake it up by mistake because of the cover.

I think you meant to say that "when not charging, you need to swipe.....".

Yeah... "clapping" and/or " whistling" will make it easier...

How about just yell at it and threaten it with its life if it don't wake up?
Or water board the little guy, that should get its attention! LMAO

A single tap does work if done within a few seconds of it going to auto standby or screen timeout off the charger. Pretty handy when working periodically with it at my desk. I can see it go off out of the corner of my eye , give a quick tap and back she is.

Well if the PlayBook is equipped with something like 1.6GHz Octa-Core processor and 2GB of RAM, just looking at it and blink one eye can probably wake it up...
