A man once said to me:
How many characters are in the word PORT? Answer 4.
How many characters are in the word LEFT? Answer 4.
How many characters are in the word RED? Answer 3.
How many characters are in the word GREEN? Answer 5.
Therefore if it's PORT, it has to be LEFT and RED and if it's STARBOARD its RIGHT and GREEN? See eh?
That is of course unless your flying upside down in which case it doesn't matter and if it's a boat/ship and your lights are upside down it really doesn't matter anyway. In that case open a bokkles of brandy and lookout for sharks see eh?
ps did I mention that I likes you sailor I does see?
You can dock some boats with either side dockside. Aren't larger vessels usually equipped so that one side is meant to be dockside for unloading. Recreational boat users with small boats can usually tie up with either the left or right side of the boat adjacent to the dock in which case the term s port and starboard have little meaning. Of course if they cruise streams with navigation buoys they should know the system.
Have you figured out the rightie tighty, lefty loosey thing yet?
Well didn't the oars used to get propelled by slaves? They called them boats ...slave ships, propelled by oars.
