I love my Playbook and the Bridge app. So I tried updating my BB for a faster one and tried the 9930. I was willing to take it back with NO problem earlier today, I figured I will keep my old contract and save about $25/mo. At least I still have Bridge, albeit slow

But WHY OH WHY did I transfer a movie to it before I returned it??? That was the clearest movie I have ever seen on a phone! I had to show the people back at the Sprint store, like "Look! That's the clearest picture you ever seen on a phone isn't it?"

but NOW I'm torn. I was dead set on a 9810 next week, and I will save $200 getting it over he 9930. But I only have experience with the 9930 as I have had it to play with for a couple days. I'm not too fond of the battery, I do like the exposed keyboard but I wish I could shutoff the touchscreen. But the 9810 from what I hear is a nice compromise of features.

Does anybody have experience with both that can share their thoughts?

The important things for me is hardware keyboard (exposed or not), snappy OS, and battery life. Switching to AT&T isn't a problem either (for the 9810)

I've said it before (in your presence, OP): 9810 + PB32 = JOY.

You need the FULL touch screen. One handed thumb typing on the compressed portrait keyboard is easy with the Torch. And with money you save, you can buy yet another PB32! How does this not get any better?

you almost got me Still got questions though....
how good is vid playback on 9810? any H.264 stuttering? vid streaming support?

or more importantly, and this might be the kicker..... Which one of these phones have Slingplayer? One or the other, or both? This can end this thread quickly

9860. I know you want the hardware keyboard, I hesitated abandoning it in the beginning. However, the virtual keyboard on the 9860 is fantastic in corrective mode and Att offers the 9860 with 4g. Bridge browsing is almost as fast as wifi, no joke. Not sure if the 9810 is bb6 only, but bb7, imo, is a lot faster. I upgraded from the 9810. The PB and 9860 pair can't be beat, imo.

btw, the video clarity and larger display are at least worth taking a look at. It was enough to convert me to a virtual only keyboard.

Really? Autofocus on the 9810 but not the 9930? What were they thinking.
Personally I don't give much merit to having a large screen on my phone, since the playbook cures all my touch cravings. And I'm a touchy feely kinda guy

I still have an antique 9700 that I rarely touch since getting the playbook.

SlingPlayer (SlingMedia) doesn't support OS6, or at least that's what it says on their site. Doesn't even mention OS7. I don't use it so I don't know if that just hasn't been updated on their site or if they actually don't support either. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Oh this is sh*tty. Looks like Sling is pretty much done with Blackberry "they'll keep an eye on the market"


Q. Why hasn't Sling Media added support for new BlackBerry devices? Why do you still not support CDMA BlackBerry devices, such as those from Verizon Wireless or Sprint?
A. Most smartphone operating systems allow a single software design to work on multiple devices from multiple manufacturers. Unfortunately, the BlackBerry operating system is such that SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry needs to be developed specifically for each BlackBerry model. That, along with the significant differences in each major version of the BlackBerry OS, make development and testing a daunting proposition for a product like ours. Worse, there are some very significant problems with implementing our streaming protocols on CDMA BlackBerry devices. We’ve simply been unable to achieve the level of streaming quality that customers would consider acceptable.

Q. What about adding BlackBerry OS 6 or 7, or native PlayBook (QNX) support?
A. Again, based on the considerations mentioned above, we currently have no plans to update SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry to support new BlackBerry models that run BlackBerry OS 6 or 7. As for native PlayBook or other QNX devices, all we can say is that we are keeping an eye on this market to see how it develops.

You guys stay up WAY too late. The 9810 has great vid playback. I was in a car going up the interstate, an iphone 4 riding with us. We both looked up a Youtube vid as a race, and the 9810 won hands down, no hesitation or stutter. That has more to do with the 4g speed I'm sure. The liquid graphics really do make a difference.

As far as Sling goes, I understand it. All the BB7 devices lack apps because of the hi res screens and sizes. I like the variety of the BB7 phones, but it has caused mayhem for the devs. Another advantage to the single model fruit company...

I just love my 9810 that I upgraded from the 9800.. It really WOWed me in the difference of the OS6 on the 9800 and then getting the OS7 on the 9810....BIG major difference and a much smoother intergration.

Also the auto focus camera was the deal breaker when I was looking at the 9900.

Yes, right after I plunked down the money for the 9810, I started reading of the problems with the 9900..
And Yes, ATT is slower than a cow in the mud, and drives me crazy. the 7.1 is even out for some carriers! But not ATT.... ARGGGGGHHHH

Since Sling is not a possibility now, maybe this might be the difference maker..
I currently have navigation on my Sprint plan. Data is also unlimited (although it's only 2G). I can't imagine shelling out additional fee for navigation. I also can't imagine signing up for AT&Ts 9810 for only 2GB. I will blow thru that at 4G.

For you 9810 owners, what do you do for navigation? Pay the addition AT&T fee or use another nav app? Also, are you all grandfathered into unlimited plans or pay addl. fees for more data?
