My grandma's rockin' a 64 GB Playbook!
For the last three months my grandmother has been using my playbook when we come to visit to play solitaire. It started there. Then she asked me to show her how to visit her favorite websites, so we did that. Then she asked me to to help her set up her email on a push account to see how easy it would be to read them, and with her reading glasses she can read emails just fine. Then, just about three weeks ago my grandma was asking me about the prices.
She wanted a tablet to take with her because she and my grandfather are on the road quite a bit, but she didn't want to spend a small fortune on a tablet. I was sitting around recently and newegg or tigerdirect.com, can't remember which one exactly had a three day sale on Playbooks. They were advertising the 64GB model for $169, brand new, unopened! I called grandma and before you know it she had one coming.
I asked her what it was that she liked about the Playbook and she said that she liked the size, fits perfectly in her purse and she loves the swipe and tap to close apps, it makes it very easy for her to remember what to do. The best thing for her, although sometimes a pain for me, was that because I too, had a playbook, she could call me to troubleshoot.
The only thing I think we are going to get her is a fine tip, soft point stylus, as she sometimes taps the wrong box or item which can happen on such a small screen. It helps that accessories have hit an all time low in price and I got her a charging cradle for $15 and the leather envelope case for $4 from Amazon recently.
I guess the point behind all of this is that the Playbook is still a viable option compared to other tablets and it can handle the majority of what you need to do on the computer for recreational use. The next thing we will do is test out my bluetooth keyboard on it to see if she likes it better for composing e-mails.
The Playbook is great, especially if you have someone who doesn't really dig technology but could stand to get with the times a bit, the Playbook is a viable option. I think if you look around you will find that for the money, it is a sure thing.
