my 32g PlayBook won't react or reset! help!!!
FirStly, the PlayBook is Next Level !!!!! Yet, prior to my major iSsue, I noted that my PlayBook's sensitivity waS reduced, but still woulD come on. Now, I lefT my PlayBook idling for a few mins and now I can't get it to react or restart. Nothing is on the screen (other than a background light; exposed when I turn off the room lights and look at the screen in the dark).
I've tried holding down the power button as well as holding the power button with the volume keys for 30 seconds; then trying the power button to see if the PlayBook fires up. However, no joy! I've even tried pluggig it into my laptop & running Desktop Manager. Desktop Manager doesn't recognise the device. What to do??!!! Please fellow crackheads, help with your much appreciated feedback.
Re: my 32g PlayBook won't react or reset! help!!!
Try again:
To fix an issue, try these in order:
Restart using the Battery Icon and press Restart
Press and hold the Power button for 10-15 seconds. Then leave it for 20-30 seconds and see if it restarts.
To REBOOT:
Press and HOLD all three keys for about 10 - 20 seconds: PowerOn, VolUp and VolDown. Start with the PowerButton. Keep holding past the 3-choice options screen. If you hear a shutter type sound, you've taken a Screen Shot and probably missed the PowerButton.
For the Debrick, if necessary, press the power button and make sure screen actually goes BLACK (off)
Try the Debrick method....
Perform a backup of your pb if you can using Desktop Manager or, at least, manually coping any unique data, photos, voice recordings, documents, etc.
1) Turn your playbook OFF by holding down the power button
2) Let your playbook sit for about 10 minutes as earlier suggested.
3) After letting the PB sit (and still powered off) open up the Blackberry Desktop Software (the latest version)
4) Once the Blackberry Desktop Software is opened, use the USB Cable and hook the PB to the PC.. THEN power on the Playbook
5) A screen will show on your computer showing that the device cannot be found
6) Click on Update. It will take awhile
Failing that
The PB has a one year warranty to the original purchaser. It also has 90 free Tech support. I do not know how Rim deals with "quasi-tech support v. warranty"

Re: my 32g PlayBook won't react or reset! help!!!
Many thanks for your reply. However, I can't get the PlayBook to power down & shut off (i.e. The screen blackens; suggesting it's off). What do you suggest? I've tried holding all 3 keys (power & both volume keys, simultaneously). Need any input you have got, please. Starting to think I've got a dud! I bought this 2nd hand from a friend in lieu of a favour. Hate to go back to him & say what's this all about? Let me know if you have got any further ideas as to how to tackle this one. Many thanks in advance for your time!
Re: my 32g PlayBook won't react or reset! help!!!
You can try the 3 restart methods again. But if you go into a dark room, is the screen still a backlit gray? If so, while still in the dark room, press the Power button and see if it goes completely BLACK (off). If so, you can try the Debrick method. Or you can press/HOLD the power button for longer - 20-30 seconds then release and wait and see what happens.
If the person is a friend, find out when they purchased - there may still be warranty coverage.
Re: my 32g PlayBook won't react or reset! help!!!
Super advice! Actually, I was being a bit of a moron. When I managed to figure out that the PlayBook was in a porfolio case with the case around the PlayBook (i.e. I only put this together when tech support asked me what was the serial number & I couldn't see it by the hdmi point. LoL!!!!!! It was then that the PlayBook was seen that it's case had a rubber seal that it was inserted & fitted around the PlayBook. Oops!). This also allowed me to properly hold down the power button (without the case interfering) & it was able to be powered down. Yipee! Now my beloved PlayBook is back in action. Phew!
P.S. I also have to add that the customer service guy on the 2nd of the UK 0800 number was extremely efficient at trying to help. Nice to hear a fellow Canadian, too. Without going on too much. Customer service in the UK is extreme-i never like to describe customer service with the words customer focus or service in the same sentence because it's so dire! Thank you RIM for extending warranty support beyond 90 days for free & ensuring that rim customer service support is both effective & friendly. Fab! Doubt you'd get that over & above the call of duty service with Apple! However, I might be wrong, on that note, too. Take care fellow crackheads. -this has been your shARQ Biite!
