You'll never get it on the PB without BB10. Which means championing for BB10 for PB might be the smarter way to go IMO.

Well we know how that ends. LOL.

And people ask me why I'd never buy another BBRY product. DNLA on legacy devices in 2011 and two years of updates couldn't bring it to the playbook.

Sign me up for Playbook 2.......NOT.

BB10 on playbook would likely be void of this function as well.

Unless they find a way to make BB10 run smoothly on half as much ram then yup - they would need to kill select services.

I saw folks debating BB10 and PB and saying it can run it fine. And they are right, as long as you never do more than 3 things at once . The dev alpha a had real memory issues that originally had me worried about bb10 success in general.

The problem is the PB is at its limit IMO. I sold it and jumped to Surface Pro 128 - and never looked back. But if I was tablet surfing today ... http://forums.crackberry.com/e?link=...token=PocNd_GO

Unfortunately the PB died for me the day BB10 came out. I just stopped using it. If my phone does the same, but better / faster / smarter - there was just no point.

But I digress I totally see why you would avoid the PB2.

    Thanks tips for yesterday's news

An alternative though unlikely, would be to dig around and see if any of the smart cookies out there got xbmc working...

I did take a run at building a Dlna client and Dlna server when the PB first came out. But needed more technical details and unfortunately Dlna documents aren't free.

Look on Amazon to see Dell Venue Pro 8 32 GB for less than $200 (USA) if you like Win 8.1. Sending this from my number 2 PlayBook.

Ok... I was about to say heck I'll pay the fees, finish your app but then...

Step 2: Email admin@dlna.org to request an invoice for the Membership initial fee of $10,000
    $10,000 lol

DLNA on BB10 is very lame. True DLNA would be server and client, BB10 is only a server. There are a few DLNA apps out there that won't work because it's not a client. For a technology that's been out there for so long and standard on most if not all handsets, BlackBerry is really behind. Not to mention the PlayBook.

I know! Even a couple hundred would have been OK.

Anyway my DLNA client / server is on hold for now. I might pick up on it again one day but the real pain in the bottom is the codec and packet exchange.

Truth is I started working on some fun games etc instead anyway.

Sadly it won't assist with using with Chromecast. Need Google play services or so it would seem.

I had hoped to get more use out of the playbook but alas glorified iPod it shall ever be
