u know what..have never played mkv files on my playbook ...it doesn't even see them

and if it does..i have no sound ..or it tells me it's unsupported ..

so um using a software called HandBrake ..to convert the file into mp4 file ..and it works like a charm ..and no quality loss

Somebody just kill me... Strangle me or cut my wrist. Sigh, talk about missing the memo. I honestly thought ive read that mkvs don't work on the playbook. Before buying it I did some research and coulda swear people were saying it doesn't play them. So I've spent the last 5 months ripping, painfully converting, filestubing only mp4 movies. I even downloaded some mkv ones that were beautiful HD quality and had to strip it down to mp4. Honestly im depressed now.

@digtech. Playbook didn't play MKV files AT ALL until OS 2.0 (or the 2.0 beta). don't feel bad...

It was not openly announced or stated by RIM that they support, but my mkvs do work.

Yes, you just need the correct video (mpeg4/avc/h.264 should be fine) and audio (mp3 or aac; as long as not AC3) then you are good to go. You don't need to install any other 'codecs' and nothing third party is necessary. All native.
How do you correct the video and audio? Are you using a separate program? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Don't have the codes right now, but if your program has presets, they might have one for the PlayBook, if not use an iPad preset.
