- Bridge and the 7" size are two things I really like about the PB.
I tried my buddy's iPad again the other day, but I had to go to his house because he doesn't take it out. He says he feels like a dooshbag in public with the iPad, but says that the PB is much more inconspicuous.
Indeed, part of the reason that people see so few PB in the wild could be that they just aren't as obvious. When I'm sitting on a plane reading my PB in the Journal Case, it looks almost like a regular book. When someone hauls out an iPad, dang near everyone on the plane knows.
Did I mention how much I'm loving the 9900/PB combo?
The PB goes with me everywhere, which was not true of my iPad. I usually left my iPad at home where I also have a desktop computer and 2 laptops, so didn't see the point.
I am rockin' the 9850/PB combo myself, and lovin' it too!!Last edited by CracklePot; 10-28-11 at 08:17 AM.
10-28-11 08:02 AMLike 0 - Funny, I can now continue runningmy business while using the toilet... I used to have to leave my desktop and be interrupted... that additional 15 minutes @ 100+ an hour answering emails, reading documents adds up... my toilet time alone has paid the paltry cost of this device ten times over the cost since I've had it - the toilet is outside of my wifi range by the way....no other tablet would do this for free.
You really need a better imagination for uses for your playbook
LOL! So true! The PB is much better than the old standby - the paper.10-28-11 08:14 AMLike 0 - So refreshing to read a post like this. I have had my Playbook since launch day and for the life of me, I couldn't tell you if there was a day where I didn't have my hands on it. In the least, I pop it in the dock, go to Veetle and watch some Family Guy to help me go to sleep Just last night I fell asleep watching a stream of Game 6 of the World Series. My tiredness could not overcome the excitement of the game!10-28-11 08:29 AMLike 0

Your post was a great testimony as a launch day buyer. It's rare to see a post like this from an early adopter on this forum.steppinghorse likes this.10-28-11 08:59 AMLike 1 - I should have added that as well...I am an ALMOST launch day owner ...and spent what I still defend as good value for my money at full price.

- yep...
1) This July I was leading a group of friends from California through the Canadian Rockies, we stayed in some fairly remote rustic cabins in the middle of the mountains. I was streaming video and websites through Bridge browser on my 9800 at night and at breakfast the next day... they were seriously impressed. No WIFI, and sketchy cell service and it worked like a champ.
2) Wife and I were talking about getting some custom furniture made, we were sketching out designs, when I knew of a website that we could get ideas from. I pulled up the website on the PB and as we were in the room with the theatre projector, I popped in the HDMI mini cable and projected the site while we made notes and drawings. Took 2 seconds to implement.
3) Out on a road trip in remote northern Alberta, Canada at a jobsite. Needed to access a specialized communications app on my work desktop to communicate with the cellular modem that was acting flaky. Standing in front of the unit, used aVnc on the PB to access my work machine back in the city, fired up the app remotely, tested the modem and made setting changes from the PB remoted into my desktop, packed up and headed home. Made my trip notes and parts list up in the cab of the service truck on the PB too.
4) Working on a car engine in the garage, had the PB with my factory service manual .pdf perched on the front of the engine firewall while I was working. Pulled up upper manifold bolt tightening order and torque specs in seconds without losing the focus of the task or referring to the paper manual on the bench. Small enough to be unobtrusive among the tools and parts yet pinch-zooming the exploded diagrams with one hand worked perfectly. Smeared some grease and got a pile of sticky fingerprints on the screen, cleaned off perfectly. Gorilla glass or no, my non-screen protected display cleaned up like new.
5) Playbook on the work desktop alerts me of incoming cell calls on the Torch... I keep leaving the phone on vibrate in my jacket pocket across the room and miss a bunch of calls. Now that I'm walking across the office more to answer calls, I'm pretty sure I'm losing weight.

It is nice to be able to relax on the couch and have my Playbook in hand while watching some TV. The size is awesome, the bridge is amazing and wi-fi is cool when I have access. And yes, iPads are WAY too noticable. It's like wearing an Affliction shirt. Just hang a sign around your neck that says "Hi, I'm a dushe!"
I love my Playbook, I'm glad I bought it and I don't need 2.0 or Droid apps to make it "work right".Last edited by TerribleTim68; 10-28-11 at 04:53 PM.

I use my PB to video tape my kids hockey games and it's the perfect size. Not so big that I look like a dork who wants everyone to know I have an iPad, but big enough to let me keep the action in the frame and still watch the game with my naked eye.
The kids get my iPad2. I use the PB.lovin2act likes this.10-28-11 02:38 PMLike 1 - I gotta say, I love mine too. I use it every day. And I agree about the email and bbm. I think after 2.0 comes out, it's just gonna get a bit more frustrating when I will then get a single email on my outlook, my phone and my Playbook. It's bad enough already that my Facebook notifications have to be cleared on both the phone and the Playbook app, even if I read them on one or the other. So honestly, I like things the way they are right now.

Did you mean Affliction? And yeah agreed if so! Although I do have one in my closet that I cant seem to let go of cause it is so dang comfortable. Thankfully the label is very small and blends in too so it is basically unnoticeable unless you get right up really really close. I got it for 8 bucks at a thrift shop so there was no purposeful douchebaggery going on on my part haha! I got it since it fit great and was very comfy and because it does not look like one of the normal "Hey I'm a tough guy" styles they have
And yep I am also one who also does not want a separate email/bbm account for my playboooks, I love the simple mirror functionality of bridge and I loooove the size of the playbook too! Is perfecto for me!10-28-11 03:00 PMLike 0 -
- Good post. There are some people that seem to find some thing that the Playbook does not do, and small as it may be, that is how the describe the entire experience.
"it can't do XXXX so it sucks! and I hate it and everything about it!" rants the angry line.
My wife and I love our Playbooks.
They are fast, support flash, Easy as can be video chat, has great specs, takes great pictures, the Bridge feature saves me $50.00 bucks per month vs. equivalent 3g competitor, it is secure, on and on but they focus on some thing it can't do.
I could list a bunch of things that other tablets don't do and rant about that but what is the point of all the ranting? If people do their homework and use common sense they won't buy anything for five or six hundred bucks that does not meet their needs.
If you like your device, it is the right one for you.
I love my Bold 9930 and my Playbook. If I had to get a phone or tablet tomorrow it would be the Bold 9930 and the Playbook. They Rock!bquinney and Kingkracker like this.10-28-11 03:21 PMLike 2 - Bridge and the 7" size are two things I really like about the PB.

- I too am an early adopter and acquired by 32gb Placbook on launch day at full price.
I have never for one second regretted it. As soon as the 9930 was available through Sprint, I replaced my 9650 and enjoy "Bridged" browsing everywhere.
I have used this combination every single day and still find new ways to enjoy the Playbook.
I am not ashamed to say that my toilet time has now become immensely more productive also.
I use VNC but would like to see a RDP application.
Every additional upgrade RIMM implements is like found money for me.black hole likes this.10-28-11 05:44 PMLike 1 - New adopter here. The sale pricing grabbed me....only because I did not see the use in a tablet...of any kind. Bought the playbook on sale. Love it. I now see the value of a tablet. I haven't used my laptop since I bought the playbook. In fact, I use my playbook more than I ever used my laptop.
Finding more uses every day. My favorite use is the book reader app. If you have not tried it....try it!! I have so many computers and laptops and other tech sitting idle......love the playbook.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com10-28-11 06:19 PMLike 0 - Getting the playbook means that I do not have to carry my laptop every where. I will not go over whats good about because you already know. I do the family history and I am allowed to take this to places I can not take my laptop.
If they just improve the bridge right now that would be fine for me.
It is good you started this thread, because I thought I would never post here because of all of the debates here. As long as you get what you need from it then be happy.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com10-28-11 06:59 PMLike 0 - I also love my playbook/9930 combo. I have wifi at home, but I use the bridge everywhere else. It really works well--rarely disengages (only at work where the reception is weak). When I am working on a project at my desk, it is great to listen to the music I prefer. The speakers are great! I still like to play a game or two, and the PB is great for that as well. Thank you for starting this thread. It's nice to read positive reviews of the PB. I agree with everyone here; this is a wonderful tech piece!

I have had my PB since launch and have never regretted the purchase. It goes everywhere with me. There is never a day I don't use it. I watch movies, read books, surf the web, listen to music, watch videos, play games and take notes for work. The HDMI works like a charm. The camera and video are terrific.
I bridge to my 9930 and that is the cherry on the already luscious cake.
i can wait for 2.0. Knowing it is coming only increases the itch to see what next it can do.
I got my daughter and nephew each a PB for Christmas. I cannot say enough how much I LOVE this thing.10-28-11 09:19 PMLike 0
