Loading a Web Site for Use Outside of Wi-Fi Area?
Hey all,
I'm pleased to be part of Crackberry.com, but first of all let me say that I'm not a BlackBerry user (or a user of any smartphone for that matter). However, for my job I must commute for 45 minutes on a train and bus each way. For this reason, I have hinted to my wife that I think it would be a good idea to buy me a Playbook for Christmas to keep me amused while on the go. I have looked at other tablets but the Playbook seems to be an outstanding tablet for a very good price (I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir!).
In any case, I won't have access to wi-fi on transit, nor will I have BlackBerry Bridge capability, so is it possible to load an entire website (videos, pictures and all) onto the browser before I set out? That way I can read the Globe and Mail or whatever without having to use wi-fi continuously.
Thanks for reading! Take care all.
EH

IF your site provides RSS, you have Read It Offline that downloads all the RSS and associated text/images, and lets you read, well, offline as the title says. It also is a Readability client, so if you register at Readability, you can announce the pages or sites you want and then Read It Offline also saves these pages for offline reading.
Now, RIO is a quite recent app, so, all of this works well, but not for all RSS feeds for instance.
The dev was very reactive some months ago, but now seems maybe back to something else... Have a search here on the forum, you have a couple of discussions on the app.

Wonderful, thanks for the tips! I will give it a go.

Might be interesting to have a look at Calibre (calibre - E-book management), seems to be able to convert web news to various ebook formats, and to sync through USB.
Haven't tried it for this application myself, but it's the standard for ebook management.
Sometimes I just "save as" the webpage on my comp. browser, and copy files on PB (wirelessly). Then open files in the PB browser (might want to use the fantastic free Air Browser, much easier to navigate to your files).
Last option I can think of would be using online services that convert web pages to pdf, works from the PB, of course. I've tried some and didn't really like the reformatting, but you might like it (from memory, something like url to pdf in google should give useful links).
Hope you'll enjoy your PB :)

I watch videos during my 30-40 minute bus ride.
