Soooo, I finally succumbed to my inner geek and bought a 16gb playbook. It's actually still in the box as I have to teach a crossfit class in a few. Anyway Office Depot had them on sale for $169 and only had 2 left in stock. Instead of waiting I went ahead and jumped on it. I have a Bold 9900 that I will be activating later tonight. Should I upgrade the OS to 2.1 or leave it stock?

Upgrade.. I haven't had any issues with my upgrade. Great battery life, texting over Bridge.. and the badly needed mutliple Android windows. Take the plunge, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

ps. May sure you download the newest bridge app from rroyy.com/ota

Is it true I can tether my Playbook to my Bold? My school I teach at doesn't allow us access to the wifi. And they block most of the sites on the computers like this one. It's to keep the students from getting on the No No sites. Lol.

Yes download the Bridge app to your Bold and sync it with the PlayBook. Also the Bold can be used as a remote to control certain aspects of PlayBook while Bridged.

Yes you can. I used it when I had to access some info while I was out of the house a couple of weeks ago. But watch your monthly bill thats the only thing.

You can surf the web on your Playbook using your phone's cell signal with the bridge app. It's awesome in my opinion. Enjoy.

And you will be able to operate using your Bold as a Hotspot for the Internet allowing you to converse with CrackBerrians like myself.

Upgrade. I am also a newbe who has just bought a PlayBook only due to the amazing price. I have to admit to being not very technically savvy but this is one of the best buys I have made in a long time. I used to think that tablets were a waste of money but I can't put this thing down. My laptop is pretty much gathering dust at the moment. Only thing is that I don't think I can print from it unless someone knows otherwise. Hope you love it as I do.

I havent ditched it per se. Its an awesome device. Huge! Great for media. Not very practical for a person that is a PE teacher football, basketball, and track coach. Not mention a Crossfit trainer. My daily wardrobe consists of sweatpants shorts and hoodies. A 5.3" screen in my pockets is uncomfortable. And no i dont keep my phone on me during class hours. I have to during practice in case of injury to the kids.

Actually, I don't believe you can skip the upgrade - you have to connect to wifi to initialize and that grabs the latest OS in any event. Enjoy.

I upgraded. Can I assign ringtones to incoming texts, bbm and emails? I figured out how to assign wallpapers.

When I bought my playbook, I was only going to use it for ebooks. Boy was I mistaken. It is a great little device for a great price. It won't completely replace a laptop but man it is one handy device. I don't regret buying it for one minute unlike the iPAD 1. Now talk about a mistake......

The pb does not allow custom tones to be assigned to any notification functions unfortunately.

Depends on what you are looking for:

Conqu, GroovyNotes, DocScan Lite, Handy Scanner, Box, Wunderlist, Air Browser, Battery Guru or Battery Watch, Poynt, Splashtop, and a handful of sideloaded Android apps.

Ok downloading some now. I don't know how to do the side loading of android apps. I want my Kindle app so I can read the books I've bought.

I just bought a 64gb over ebay. You might not believe it, but a used unit here in Malaysia costs USD750, but I got mine for USD200 inclusive shipping. Just can't wait for it to arrive...

750$ is insane. I bought 64 gig PlayBook in South Africa for 375 dollars last month. Still way more than Europe and American prices
