From what I understand it's built in to the OS. If you visit app world you will see more apps then if you were using OS1.
just checked the app world and seems no different than before update
For example 3d holophonics is an android app. When you use that app it runs in the android player. You won't see that app if you browse app world with OS 1.

Apps not available in app world have to be sideloaded. There is a forum for that. I don't know much about it.
