"However, Mr. Jobs said these devices would be dead on arrival because they would too big to compete with smartphones and too small to compete with Apples iPad, which features a near-10-inch screen."

The article you posted has this written in it. If it can't compete directly with the iPad because of its size wouldn't that mean it and the other 7" tablets have a little niche to themselves that'd offer them protection from the influences of Apple?

Regardless, I really don't think this statement is very accurate. Size alone can't possibly be a determinant. I'm pretty sure there are some people that wish they had a smaller iPad/tablet and would value the size of a smaller tablet for whatever reason.

Um, listen up there Mr. Arrogant Jobs!

I don't really care that I don't have to weed through 300,000 apps in order to find 10 that I actually like and use. Thanks anyway!

One of the main reasons that I never cared for your iMaxiPad is that it's just too freaking big! And haven't I been hearing that you plan to introduce a 7 inch model yourself?

Your remarks stink of fear. Must be getting a little stuffy there in your office!

I truly admire jobs for his great work and endless innovation in the tech industry. But i just cannot stand it when he starts dissing other tech companies everytime something bad crops up and for that he doesn't deserve any respect. This isn't the first time he's dissing other companies such as the antennagate issue sometime back.. Not forgetting previous criticisms on android for being a smartphone for users who want to watch porn on their device.

Apple is posting some incredible financial numbers though man. RIM can only dream of those type of numbers at this point.

His arrogant and deceptive ways are but just two reasons I despise the guy. Just because he makes a lot of money for Apple investors is no reason for me to admire (or envy) the guy.

While not matching Apple's numbers, I am sure that Rim's CEO isn't crying himself to sleep at night after their numbers were again a record for that quarter and continue to grow.

Both 7" and 9.7" screens make some compromises on usability for the sake of things like weight and battery life, after all you still can't read an a4 pdf full-size on an ipad either, the likes of the playbook simply go a bit smaller so they can be more comfortably used one-handed.

In time as the tablet market continues to grow it wouldn't surprise me if we see a much wider range of screen sizes as even the particular niches will be large enough to merit devices.

Despite Apples good numbers the ipad undersold expectations by almost 20%. Regardless, as is pointed out above RIM had a record quarter as well and it seems both companies are thriving. If I were to get a tablet, the 7 inch screen size would be what I would seek. The current ipad is too large to be useful for me. The 64 gb playbook might be in my future though, depending on the pricing.

One must also keep in mind that RIM is mainly just a phone company, but Apple also has iPods and Macs to help with their sales.

I'm not saying that Apple's iPhone numbers aren't impressive, but we should really compare apples with apples (no pun intended).

It seems as though Steve Jobs' rants are getting longer and more intense. With the influx of new tablets and seeing as how iPad 2 probably won't be anything special, I'd be shaking in boots too.

Getting a little tight underneath your turtleneck, Steve?

Wow 14.1 million iPhones in one quarter is very impressive. Now imagine how much higher they would be if they offered the phone on other US carriers!!! If the iPhone is released on Verizon in 2011 as the rumors are pointing to, then I would say that the statement that RIM won't catch up is 100% accurate. RIM is running into the holiday season with a very stale and anemic lineup compared to the competion, and the Playbook is Vaporware right now. Sure it looks cool, but you won't be able to get one till "early 2011". That will give Apple time to expand marketshare for the iPad and I bet that once results come in after Christmas, it will be a huge base of them out there.

As for the rest of Job's rants, love him or hate him he is by far better at the game of marketing than any of the two double talkers running RIM!

As well noted by just about every analyst, this was mostly due to supply constraints, not lack of demand.
