This is good news. Although I believe these things should have definitely been included at launch, it is nice to hear a confirmed timeframe for this release.
Does anybody else think that it's pretty weak for something as simple and basic as a mail app to not be available at launch?
Not at all. Watch the video.
RIM didn't want to just slap a basic mail app on the PlayBook. The native email client, when it comes out, will have security measures on par with what BlackBerry fans are accustomed to.

Understandable, but where is the planning in all of this? Were they not aware that they would be releasing a tablet that would need a mail app?

Maybe the mistake was making the pb available to the general public.
Wonder if people would have been happier to hear that RIM had developed a tablet just for the business community and 6 months after it's release it would be adapted for use by the casual consumer?
