Charge it up and fire it up, nothing to worry about there.

Go read up on how to sideload as many practical apps (ES File Explorer) don't exisit in Blackberry world. Goodereader site has many apps you can sideload onto playbook.

First charge to at least 70 to 80%. Then get on a good wifi network leaving it on the charger and go through the setup process. You don't say what part of the world you are in and I hope this works as well for you as it does here in the USA.

Perhaps this video will be helpful. If you don't have a BB smart phone skip the part about the Bridge. When you get the tablet going refer to the HELP icon for much useful information and also look at what is under the gear symbol in the upper right corner.

Some essential apps include Air browser (the PB's inbuilt file system management is shocking poor), BB Bridge to connect to your phone, Origami browser for when you need to be able to change your browser ID string, a media player app if you'll be using PB for music, and Angry Birds lol.

If you listen to podcasts look for the icon and plug in your faves, or look for new ones. I use my PB for this feature and love the ability to track and update. Although the speakers are OK, I usually run a line-out from the headphone jack to my radio (Sangean PR-D5) to utilize its better sound. I'll also do this with internet radio (ie. Live 365) or distant stations with programs I like, but reception that's poor, ie 650 WSM for the Grand Ole Opry or bluegrass, or 770 WABC for the ever informative John Bachelor Show.

I picked up a small frame stand at a dollar store with which I prop up th PB and use it as digital picture frame at work, or the Beach Sounds App on stressful days.

I think the hardest part is trying to get your mind around all the things that can be done and how to integrate your work/hobbies into these wonderful systems and apps that are available.

Go to Amazon and get the Blackberry Rapid Travel charger for about 15 bucks. The best you'll spend.

Connects to the 3 pins at the bottom with a magnetic connector that you can connect blindfolded, and it breaks away if you forget it's attached.

THIS WILL SAVE your Micro USB port from damage and then use the Micro usb port for backups and updates and data transfers only.

Also, make sure you use the data cable that came with the PB, not all micro usb cables are created equal, some are just charging cable and will/can cause issues and frustration. There is also the charging dock which work great, you just have to keep it clean and free from dust.

Welcome, good luck and we are here to help.

Hope you plugged it in with theBlackberry symbol up if you have a PB charger. The long side of the trapezoidal charger plug should be down or you can damage tbe micro usb port.

Put a little dot of white paint or fingernail polish on the "up side" of the connector to help keep orientation and not bugger up the connector.

First three responses WRONG! The third was part of the way there.

First charge fully - 3rd reply hinted and mentioned this.

Second connect to WiFi and update the OS to the latest! Before doing anything else!!

Then sign in to BlackBerry ID and install your apps configure preferences etc

    BlackBerry Q10 ? & Full Metal CB10!

As part of the setup process you establish a BB ID. Don't believe you can setup a tablet without so doing. You can use the ID you have on another PB or your phone up to five devices.

Charge it and fire it = charge and power on to me.

Update the OS is not standard thinking to your phrase by numerous people, assuming so, we'll you know how the root word gets broken down

The advice and suggestions in this thread are appalling terrible and would leave a bad taste in most novice tablet user's minds.

After charging the battery to 100% you can begin the initial set-up procedure which walks through each step in sequence. Once the initial set-up and software update complete you are ready to explore BlackBerry World for applications. The built-in web browser functions fine for 99% of legitimate websites. I regularly keep 10 tabs open concurrently without adversely impacting web browser performance. As for the rest you have not told us what you activities / tasks you want to use the BlackBerry PlayBook. With this information we can provide suggestions about applications.

Most of the advice in the above posts is helpful and if not used by the Newbie is at least interesting. The comment in the above post that it is appalling is itself appalling.

I ordered that charger, it's high quality and works great. Imagine, this thing was like 80 bucks few years back. I got my 64 gig 199.00$ amazon. Love the thing, sort of.....

Just pray it doesn't break, you don't want the unpleasant experience of dealing with the black hole, BB customer service. It doesn't exist,

When I bought my PB from PC World last year they told me that almost everyone they sold was being returned due to the charging socket being damaged. The rapid charger is essential & I'd also recommend transferring files using wifi sharing so that you don't have to use the USB socket at all.

Well guys I have had my PlayBook for a couple of days now and I just can say it's incredible, much better than the experience I've dad with Apple tablet products so far. I also got the fast charger and the convertible case. The charger is essential as some of you pointed out. For exchanging files, I set up it on my mac via smb:// and works perfectly. I also enjoy the fact that Blackberry Bridge lets my PlayBook read/write on my BBQ10 Micro SD and the device itself!

I have a question now regarding apps. I got some apps from Snap for my BB. Can I get some android apps in anyway into my PlayBook? I really appreciate all of your comments, thanks everyone again!
