I know playbook is getting long in the tooth, but I still use mine daily and honestly I just love this tablet too much to just let it die. I've seen posts in the oast about using pb as a car entertainment device, and am interested in feedback from anyone who has tried this.

At first glance this makes a ton of sense; ideal form factor, bluetooth, gps, great UI, and Blackberry Bridge extends my phone's internet connection to the tablet.

So does anyone have any first-hand experience with this? Advice? Warnings?

I tried on a couple of occasions to use my Playbook (wifi only version) as a nav device in my car while using my Z10 as a hotspot. It worked, but the GPS had a horrible time picking up or maintaining a GPS lock which rendered it unusable for a navigation alternative. It did work fine for music though.

As long as you have a Bluetooth interface to your audio system in your vehicle, No Problemo, If you don't, you can add one that works with your specific vehicle,( I have a BT-35 for my Ridgeline).

As to the nav part, I use Magellan Compass, and I "pre-loaded"/downloaded and cached to the PB, the 6 western states down to level 17 (street I believe). I have no trouble grabbing and keeping GPS lock. It does depend on how much windshield the PB has to "look" thru for satellite accusition.

Have not done it but here are some things I thought of.

What kind of vehicle do you have?

The playbook is just a little bit big to fit in the double din slot and you will likely want to keep the head unit you have anyway
Also not all apps support portrait mode

    double DIN 180 x 100 mm
    playbook 194 x 130 mm

    Power supply

    Audio interface

    lineout or bluetooth
Your head unit needs to support your choice
    bluetooth is obviously easier

    other

can you see the display in sunlight?
will the gps work inside the car?

    Hope that helps

What exactly is your question? Seems like you don't know what you want, and haven't really asked anything at all.

Do you want to get a windshield or dash mount?

Or fiberglass the tablet into the dash and replace the existing head unit?

I would suggest against the latter as you won't have access to the button.

Otherwise, I would use it for music/movies and use the 3.5mm plug into your head unit (or into amplifiers).

    Can you be more specific?
