How does the Playbook screen look compared to iPad 2?

I am quite happy with the screen quality on the iPad 2. Those who had a chance to play with the Playbook, as well as the iPad 2, care to comment?

Very clear and very sharp. Never got them side by side for a direct comparo, but I can tell you the PB was def playing HD video and it looked awesome. It seemed sharper than the iPad, and it should. It has better resolution.

I think the resolution, sharpness, and responsiveness of the playbook is a **** of a lot better than the ipad 2. Crisp graphics, solid feel - my only concern is fingerprints but the ipad 2 had the same issues and then some (because of the size of the screen, it was a noticeable inconvenience)

The PB screen had a lot of depth to it so that it felt like a much larger screen than you actually had, which to me is a very big plus...

Aside from that I think PB > ipad 2 screen hands down

Well the Xoom has a higher resolution that the iPad 2 but I was quite disappointed with the color saturation, blurriness, and pixel noise when even pictures were slightly zoomed in. Very very poor screen. That's why it got me thinking about the Playbook. In no way is the Xoom a $600 device imo, even at $300 I would not consider it. This thing is going back for sure.

Someone mentioned the dpi of the playbook vs the ipad2 in one of the playbook threads. I can't find it but IIRC... playbook 170dpi and ipad 132dpi, so the playbook screen should look better.

We just got the Xoom here in Canada today. I used it. I disliked it. And yes, the screen was less than impressive. The iPad 1 beside it looked better. After using the PB last weekend I can say with no doubt that the screen is amazing and will not disappoint. And as was mentioned, it looks bigger than its 7".

When you take a picture with the same resolution and bring it down to a smaller screen, it always looks better as long as the glass is comparable. With the same width (landscape-wise) for both devices, you are squeezing in more dots per inch on the Playbook so it looks sharper. The iPad is 1024 x 768 (4:3) and the Playbook is 1024 x 600 (just over 16:9).

So if you played a regular 16:9 DVD/BluRay movie on both devices, you will see both at the same resolution but the iPad will be slightly bigger with the same pixels spread out more. The Playbook will have little to no black horizontal bars while the iPad will certainly have black bars so you will see a similar movie on both screens and the Playbook (technically) will look better.

Of course, this is theory until you can judge them closely side-by-side.

I played with a xoom yesterday at bestbuy and I have some bad wrists. After holding it for only a couple minutes my hands were starting to hurt. Not sure what the weight difference is between it and the playbook but with the xoom I'd have to have something to lay it on or set it in.

iPad resolution is definitely disappointing in certain situations. PB has much higher pixel density and should look pretty sharp.

I bought an iPad 2 to see if i'd like the size, and i actually surprisingly do so i think i'm going to keep it and wait for a 10" PB.

I have a 7" nook color if i want to bring something more portable on a trip.

If RIM does a good job on the screen with a good layer of glass... I do believe it will probably be a very successful 7" tablet... I like the 7" size of the Galaxy Tab, however... I do not like the Andriod platform... Playbook seems to be very polished... and I have one on pre-order :D

Last Saturday I used the PlayBook for almost an hour. Had no problems holding it for that long. It is definitely nice and light.

The issue I see isn't resolution or dpi or anything like that, it's screen technology used. The iPad 2 has an IPS LCD which provides a good bright picture with great viewing angles. The Xoom, in comparison, looks like ****. I don't know the type of screen the Playbook will have, but judging from the pic below, the viewing angle looks good at least. We know it's higher DPI than the iPad, but the iPad is hard to beat when it comes to the screen, so we'll see. I have an iPad 2 and have a Playbook coming around, if not before launch, so I'll let you guys know when I get them side by side.

Wow the only person who got it right, and with the iPads LED backlighting everything on it looks gorgeous. Simply put it will come down to the screen tech which will determine the better screen.

the playbook screen is fine. even tn panels can compare to ips sometimes.
