- I'm sure this is somewhere in the PB forum, but despite searching I'm striking out.
I think either me or my PB is cursed. I had a similar issue with the last OS. Constant freezes requiring a reboot. Last time I performed a reinstall through DM. The install worked fine and I stopped having freezes. But ever since updating to 1.06 the freezing has started all over again (I've had to reboot at least a dozen times in 2 days).
My problem is the method I used previously to reinstall no longer works. Last time I connected the PB to DM and selected "update" (on DM). I then cancelled the update and by holding the power button could reinstall the OS. But now when I click on update in DM, I don't get the option to cancel - I only get a DM message saying no update is available. Holding the power button while connected to DM only forces a reboot, then when it powers back up DM no longer recognizes the PB without closing DM and restarting.
How can I reinstall? Is there any benefit to doing a wipe?Last edited by Altarocks; 06-23-11 at 02:52 PM.
06-23-11 02:49 PMLike 0 - You are doing a reboot and not a restart? Reboot is hold the left and right volume keys and the power button until even the on screen buttons disappear and a red led light shows.
A security wipe is done by
1. backing up your device through DM
2. touch the gear wheel on the upper right corner of your Playbook.
3. tap on the folder "security"
4. tap on the screen where it says "security wipe" and follow the directions.
5. after the OS has reinistalled, connect to DM and under "device" do "restore". I just restored apps and data, but did not restore settings.
6. after everything has been restored, restart and then once the playbook is up and running, do a reboot.Altarocks likes this.06-23-11 02:58 PMLike 1 - My freezes have caused me to reboot. While trying to reinstall the OS through DM, I've tried both restart and reboot; neither way reinstalls the OS.
Part of my question that I didn't clearly state was what is the difference between a wipe and a reinstalled OS? After 1.05 I did a reinstall and all was well. I guess I'm under the impression that a wipe may not do the same thing as a reinstall.
I'm in the process of the wipe. Looks like this does perform a reinstall since I am getting notified of the 1.06 update. I'll let you know how it turns out.06-23-11 03:09 PMLike 0 - OK, looks like the wipe is the way to go. Odd that using DM worked with .105 but not now, but the good news is a wipe is easier and faster. It'll be interesting to see if I develop freezing after the next update. I intentionally left off over half of the apps I initially had on .105 in case they caused my freezes, but I still had issues going to .106. I'm not about to load the 20 GB of media and apps I used to carry, if for no reason other than it takes a long time to restore them if I need to wipe again. At least not until I'm able to update without issues.06-23-11 06:05 PMLike 0
