    Hi everyone,

just yesterday i got my Playbook for a fair price and I must say I am really enjoying it. But there is one thing that I could not resolve until now: My Playbook tends to shut down without any reason while operating. Since yesterday it happened three times. I have googled this problem but couldnt find any constructive advises on how to fox this. As for now I couldnt tell the shutdowns are connected to some kind of specific apps. First time this happend during standby, second time while using the browser and another time while plugging in the usb cable from the computer - so no patterns there in my opinion.
I have also read that the battery level indicator might be calibrated wrong - is there any way to check that out? Anyways: Most of the people where the miscalibrstion was mentioned happend at about 15 to not more than 25% of the indicated battery power - mine however already shuts down at 80 and once at 60 percent - so how high are the chances its the calibration?
Last thing I have to mention is that after all these shutdowns restarting is kind of instable too: in some cases it just restarts, but then wont do anything beyond the bootanimation, or the red LED would just blink a few times and nothing would happen.

I am really desperate about this issue since the tablet itself is grest and I really would like to keep it, but this bug is really crucial to the descision of keeping or not keeping it.

I would appreciate any constructive help.
    Many thanks to you guys!!

Have you done a Security Wipe?

I have to be honest - it does not sound very good. While the pb can occasionally shutdown, it should be very rare. And then you mention, when it restarts, it can be delayed. That is not normal.

Is this a used Playbook (pb)? Can you return it and get a replacement? If used, it is possible something odd was loaded on it.

If you already have any personal or unique data on it, back it up - I prefer manual, drag/drop type backup but others do use the Desktop software.

You could try the Security Wipe as suggested. From the Main Screen, swipe down, select the GEAR/options. On the left, scroll down to Security and Select it. Then on the Right, scroll down to Security Wipe. Let it rip.

Or Debrick to reload the entire OS:

    Try the Debrick method....

Perform a backup of your pb if you can using Desktop Manager or, at least, manually coping any unique data, photos, voice recordings, documents, etc.

    1) Turn your playbook OFF by holding down the power button
    2) Let your playbook sit for about 10 minutes as earlier suggested.
    3) After letting the PB sit (and still powered off) open up the Blackberry Desktop Software (the latest version)
    4) Once the Blackberry Desktop Software is opened, use the USB Cable and hook the PB to the PC.. THEN power on the Playbook
    5) A screen will show on your computer showing that the device cannot be found
    6) Click on Update. It will take awhile

Thanks for the replies, guys. Yes the pb is used - the guy who I bought it from implied there was still warranty through the seller, bit I wouldnt give much to his words since he also didnt mention the shutdowns.

I will try the debricking later today.

One new thing I found out: The pb was plugged in for charging this night but as I found out this morning it crashed again during standby. Funny thing is it did not seem to charge after it crashed - it only did ten percent since I plugged it in in the night

    Sorry about your "luck."

You might give bb a call for support. Generally, they have not required a receipt but the serial number. 24/7

The PB has a one year warranty to the original purchaser. It also has 90 free Tech support. I do not know how Rim deals with "quasi-tech support v. warranty"
