    Hi,
Does anyone know why I'm getting camera error 4003 in the camera application and howbto fix? Does a reinstall OS fix it? Weird thing is that the video chat app works fine (so front facing camera definitely works), just wondering about the back camera and whether it is a software or hardware issue because the front facing camera doesn't work in the camera application either.

    Any help is greatly appreciated,
    Mike

Sorry to say but call Blackberry support as I had this issue and had to return it. They sent me a new one which was fantastic and is working like a charm!

As noted, call rim even after the warranty period they have been known to fix/replace

The PB has a one year warranty to the original purchaser. It also has 90 free Tech support. I do not know how Rim deals with "quasi-tech support v. warranty"

Called the support number and they said that it's warranty ended on 30th Jan 2013 so i would have to pay an 80 repair fee if I was to accept a repair

Does anyone know what actually causes the issue??

I've kept the device in near perfect condition and barely used the camera at all, there's no cracked glass or scratches on the camera lens or the front screen.

It's annoying that they say I still have to pay even though it isn't MY fault it is broken.

They may have changed their policy on this issue. Or possibly, over the pond, they have a different policy. You might call again and ask for someone higher up. Explain that you've read this is a known INHERENT FAULT or BUG which they fix. Don't spend too much psychic energy if you get too upset. Good luck.

Contacted them again and spoke to a customer services rep (instead of the technician from the US which I spoke to last time and told me i'd have to pay ~90).

Just so anyone else from UK knows if they get this issue:
Minimum warranty in UK is 2 years.

So they're gonna replace (probably not repair since it's a hardware issue) for free.

Really impressed with the customer services rep; got the whole thing sorted in just 10 minutes.

My next tablet/phone will definitely be a blackberry

I had the same error message this evening and got a bit worried by all those posters saying its a hardware error. Tried a hard reset and camera is now functioning as normal.

I also have this problem. Just phoned support who were very helpful. They are sending me a box to return the PlayBook, (not sure how I am going to cope without it ) and I will just wait and see what the response is. Hopefully it will be a free repair/replacement otherwise looking at the notes it is 77.

I had mine repaired to blackberry after the warranty has expired. It had been fixed free of charge after waiting for a month. Just recently there is a new update right to .1753. The problem with the error is back.it seem for my case. Every update cause camera error, since the last error come about after the previous update. in addition to camera error the power button seem to be a problem as well. It will put the device to sleep but do not turn on, can only be turn on by swipping. I just want to share my experience, maybe other experience the same. I hate to get it back repaired, cause it will take forever again.

See the list of BB phone numbers in Reply 3 above. BB has tended to fix this problem even after the warranty has expired BUT there is no guarantee.
