If anybody is on, please help. Our new playbook began acting like it is possessed: screen flipping back and forth, apps randomly opening and running, etc....

tried shutting down the system, but the window for that only comes on screen for a split second....then gone.

gonna let it run out of battery and see what happens

please, any assistance would be appreciated!

this has been seen caused by certain emissions like a plasma ball. Is it near any appliance?
    static electricity?

Usually not a good idea to let the battery run down

Of course it could be jafo down there in texas storming around in a grumpy mood.

I will try these things....thanks for the prompt responses...yes I have Desktop Manager, sorry no storms in the area, and was using it on a couch in front of the fireplace the closest electronics would be the lamp about 10 feet away then the TV at about 15 feet away

will post back later with results

    UPDATE
OK, got the unit to shut down finally - however, when I turned the unit back on, it resumed the possessed function. At this juncture, I think it best to return the unit and get a replacement.

What kind of TV do you have and how close was the PB to the TV?

Samsung 55 inch. Placed PB just beside it. Probably too close. Will try it again but further.

Move to a different room or floor in your house, or out of it but be in close proximity to still be able to use your wifi signal, then see whether your PB behaves weird.
If it acts ok then the interference is inside that room somewhere.

Have you tried turning it off (not sleep) and cleaning the screen? Just a thought but the other examples all seem to be touch pad related.

God blessed Texas with his own hand ...brought down angels from the promised land...
    is that how it goes?

and now apparently blessed the chosen few with playbooks

Did you have it connected to a different charger by any chance?
I have noticed that certain chargers or their microUSB plugs will cause haywire antics on certain BB phones and Playbooks. It has been reported on phone threads, and I have confirmed that the same charger that affects phones will also affect a Playbook.

Just to finally update and close out this thread, I ended up spending two days on the phone with blackberry support and reset the OS to factory defaults about eight times in the course of their troubleshooting methodology. Finally, the wife said enough is enough and attempted to exchange our unit and was promptly informed there were no units and no idea when they would be in stock. Alas, we are now playbookless and are still getting emails from RIM about "one more thing they would like to try"; this after I emailed and called RIM to close the incident ticket as we no longer have the unit. I understand this is a new technology for RIM and am fully aware that oddball things can happen with electronics at any time; that being said, RIM's response to our issue was not comforting at all - in fact at one point they bad me send a video of they problem in progress as they could not believe a reset to factory default did not clear up the problem (can anyone say hardware failure here). So next time you are in the mood to give a playbook away again, I respectfully ask that you keep me in mind as a receipiant; my wife recently had to have her ankle surgically repaired and it does not look like I will be back to work for about two months (time to play mommy, daddy, cook, dishwasher, nurse etc...till the wife can rejoin the ranks of the upright walkers again). Sorry for any typos, writing this missive while attempting to get the three year old to sleep!
