    Hi!

    I have a playbook since july (i live in germany, it took them quite a while to sell it over here.) and always had this clicking noise while playing songs.

    i can't hear it when using the devices speakers but when i plug in my stereo, some pa at work or my headphones, i can hear that clicking noise which is driving me mad.

    it is not the typing sound, it is not the browser - it just mixes clicking noises into the music.

    anybody else know what i'm talking about? anybody know why this is or how i can try to fix this?

    please don't just tell me to return it. i know i have that option.

    i have this sometimes on the device when trying to record very high levels of noise and then play it back (night club, recording the subs in my car) but i put this to it not being able to record sound and that frequency or volume.

    your issue sounds more frequent so i dont know if it is the same...but if it was me i would guess that if it only makes the crackling sound through Audio Cable and not through your playbook speakers then it is a crap cable then as its only having issues through cable transfer of audio

    try another cable and see if it causes the same crackling!

    Also check on what entry you plugged your PB in your amplification system.
    Do not use entry as CD/DVD, better use AUX.
    Cable, of course is mostly guilty for that : try to plug a headphone and check if issue is the same. If not, the problem is from you cable to tour amp.

    sadly the cable and the amps/speakers are not the problem.
    i am a event technician and these things were the first i checked.


    i really think it is a software/hardware problem.
    do you guys think this can be resolved with a simple security wipe?


    thanks for replying btw. i seem to be the only one to have that problem so it's nice to have someone to share that with ;-)

    i dont know what to say then as if the issue does not replicate on the speakers but it does on the cable then the manufacturers will just blame the cable as its the only modified factor in the scenario

    did you try the head phones idea and see if it still did the same?

    security wipe only wipes all content and settings, will not refresh the operating system, you need to downgrade the OS back to a previous version and then update it again if you want to actually refresh all the device software fella

    i think you can actually do this through the Desktop Software? (Confirm?)

    If you want to wipe and reload look for debrick but backup things you want to save first.

    Celron,

    It may be a buffer underrun problem, which means the PlayBook can't keep up with the music stream. Check what bitrate your music is encoded at. Experiment with a different (lower/fixed/variable) bitrate.

    You could also experiment with the "Application Behaviour" in "Settings" > "General". Changing this to "Paused" or "Default" will probably give the foreground app (your music player) the highest priority.

    Any difference with/without charger plugged in?

    It could also be an electrical, connector or interference problem, in which case repair is your only option.

    Hello! I'm having the same problems now with my PB...I purchased it last year December and now it suddenly doesnt sound nice and a crackling sound coming out whenever I play my videos, music, even the keyboard has that same sound. Can you share how to reduce the bitrate? please? thank you!

    The bitrate would only apply to audio and maybe video. It should not affect the keyboard sounds.

    If your pb is less than a year old you might consider warranty

    The PB has a one year warranty to the original purchaser. It also has 90 free Tech support. I do not know how Rim deals with "quasi-tech support v. warranty"

    Starting to have the same problem on some videos, which were running fine before. I haven't changed anything, and those cracking sounds started just like that, and only on a few videos... I haven't installed anything, changed the configuration in any way, nothing...

    Is this occurring on videos you have taken with the pb, or videos (like movies or tv, etc) that you've copied to the pb? And this does not happen on all of whatever type of videos? Just occasionally?
