When coming out of standby, three times in the past month, including one an hour or so ago, my Playbook looked awfully colorful, kinda like a negative of the screen. Popping it in and out of standby seems to fix the issue, but I was wondering if this means the display is getting ready to die or something?

How long has it been since you've done a hard reset on it?

Are you still covered by warranty?

The PB has a one year warranty to the original purchaser. It also has 90 free Tech support. I do not know how Rim deals with "quasi-tech support v. warranty"

I have seen this post by you a million times by now I could have just looked at another thread where you said that. And werent you one of the people who donated some of the money to get me this Playbook over a year ago (Been so long I even forgot who all did, I remember some of them but I thought you did, maybe I am wrong)? So I am not the original purchaser, Chaddface is. I couldnt take advantage of the warranty even if it was still under one.

Sorry, I'm frustrated after Black Friday (love how people started calling it that) and my own personal Black Saturday. Thanks for the post, though. I had started another thread "I think my PlayBook answered my question", where I talked about how I got the display working again. I press in on the back while starting it up or while bringing out of standby and it works, and the area I have to press in is right by what I believe is the video cable (I could be wrong, I don't know the internals of the playbook just what I saw on pictures of a teardown that didn't get too in depth on what everything is in there). Maybe it's a cable to the wifi radio, for all I know, and whatever I am pressing in that is loose is behind the right hand battery. Won't know til I get a spudger and open it up to reconnect whatever is loose.

It sounds like a hardware fault to me. I have heard many stories of BB fixing PlayBooks out of warranty. Give them a call. I may have purchased it but it was sent directly to you so you should be able to deal with the warranty. If you need any help just PM me. I should have the receipt somewhere.

Good luck with rim. I'm sure that my repeated listing has been seen more than hundreds of times. It is just sometime hard to find it when you need it.

Sorry man, frustrated lately didn't mean to be an anus.

And thanks again Chadd, I will give them a call tomorrow then, would have done it when it first started showing symptoms (when I would power it off after a couple months, and turn it on, it would look washed out and have lines going up and down the screen for about twenty minutes), but I didn't think I could deal with the warranty myself, and you folks did so much for me already I didn't want to ask you to deal with it, which is what I thought would have to happen.

Welcome on board. This is a common known problem and appears to be a hardware issue. This problem will be getting worse and worse over time. Press quickly the power button to put in like a " stand by" mode, swipe back and it should return to normal condition.

Pressing power and quickly swiping does not work for mine, I have to press in on the back to get the display to pop up.

There is NOT software or reboot/restart that can fix it. Obviously, as you've found, there is some hardware defect that can be temporarily rectified by pressing on the unit. Maybe opening it up will reveal a loose screw or solder connection. As someone else mentioned, do not tamper with lithium batteries!!!!
