You can definitely email attachments and download them to your PB. You can also download files from the cloud- there is a Box app in app world that includes, I think, 50 gig of free cloud storage.
Yes - as some of the other posters have said you can also use free programs/apps like Dropbox and SugarSync and Skydrive etc to pick files up from one source and drop down to another.

Do you have an FTP server? There are some FTP clients available. I don't know if they are any good.
Cloud would be the best bet in your case. As Diegonei says, install the Box app from AppWorld and create an account using your PB. This will upgrade you to 50gigs. You can then logon from your PC to upload the content you want.
I'll work on getting the issue with the Blackberry Network driver sorted on my PC (which means I can't share files by Wi-Fi or USB but thanks for the thought blockbuy)
But no rush now that I can get my content on the machine.
Wow 50Gb! I have a couple of live ids with 25gb free for use on skydrive but I'd like to get this as well.
So to get this, install the box client on your PB create your account from the PB and you get 50GB free cloud storage?
I already had a PC based Box account - and the instructions were that if I downloaded the Box App from PB App World, and logged in from PB - then the 50GB would be added to your account.
Files and Folders connects to Box, Google Drive, Dropbox, and SugarSync, and they are working on support for SkyDrive. I use Dropbox most often, but any of them will work well enough.
Guys - thanks for all the helpful replies - I love the device and this community already and I've only been a Playbook owner since Saturday
Related question if I may.
When I uploaded my content to Box from my PC, I created three folders, Pictures, Music and Videos.
Using Box on the Playbook I downloaded the videos which went automatically into the videos folder on the Playbook and were visible in the Videos App - likewise the music and a the pictures.
However, the pictures, are not in the Pictures App (only the default wallpapers are present. If I use the File Manager App on the Playbook, the images are present in the Pictures folder.
Have I missed a trick or done something wrong - how can I make the Pictures App see my images ?
Okay - when I use Box to drop a Pic down from PC to PB I also can only see it via the Box app on the PB.
In Files and Folders - when I pulled down Box and highlighted the Pic I used the option to Download and Open - and it was then that the pic moved into the PB Pic App.
Files downloaded from Box using the Box app get downloaded to the PB's Documents Folder, regardless of the type of file they are. While Videos or Music downloaded to this folder will be seen by their respective apps, pictures will not. So, pictures, at least, should be moved out of the Documents folder and into the Photos folder. To do this, you'll need to install a different file manager from app world. Ghost Commander (free) or Files and Folders (not free) will do the trick.
