    Hi,

Anybody know how or where I could look for games that are in French ? There doesn't seem to be a way to discriminate when searching from BB World...
(I'm looking for stuff to entertain my one and a half year old kid.)

    Thanks

Some apps are regional in nature. You could try changing your location to France or Belgium to see in there are games in French.

Mind you, when I did that, I got the store's interface in French but the games were overwhelmingly in English. You can try typing some French game names in a search, but I suspect there won't be very many.

    Thanks,

Being from Quebec, my PB is in French and so is BB World's interface. That may explain why I do often find French apps in my searches...
But I haven't been lucky so far with toddlers' games.
My kid really likes playing with the PB, for now with a virtual synthesizer keyboard I installed. (I only have to watch out so he doesn't smash it on the floor.) What's too bad is that there are great games for learning animal sounds and names, and other apps like that. But only in English so far.

Maybe if I look for Android apps to convert...

Perhaps you can do a general search on the internet for toddler educational software and see if these companies offer apps in French (PlayBook or Android). I wonder if there is a Quebec based company that might be in that business. It's worth a try.

Peekaboo Animal BlackBerry World - Peekaboo Animal will be updated with French and Spanish languages.

I have the translations and voice over recorded but I need to do a bit of work to add the functionality to the app. It shouldn't take too long though.

    Cool !

It shouldn't be too difficult. Just add "le" in front of each animal for French, and "el" for Spanish : "Cow" => "Le cow" => "El cow", and voil !

Jokes apart, hope you'll come up with other educational games in the future too.

I learned English as a kid from Pepe Le Pew.

Also, don't forget with our Playbook OS and browser, web sites are fully functional. So a fun site like -
http://www.poissonrouge.com/abcfrancais - works nicely with the Playbook. You can even save these type of pages that you discover for your son onto the home screen and they can be collected into a folder and accessed anytime you have access to wifi. Remember that a double tap while on the web page allows the game to run full screen.

Quebec is in Canada. English is spoken predominantly in the Ottawa Valley, parts of the south shore of the St. Lawrence, in parts of Montreal, in a small enclave of Quebec City and in some villages on the Gasp. French dominates elsewhere and in some areas like the Saguenay, it is almost spoken exclusively. French and Engish are the official languages of Canada for federal purposes. Quebec is a French dominant province. There is only one bilingual province, New Brunswick. The rest are English dominant provinces with French spoken in certain areas. One territory (Nunavut) has three official languages: French, English and Inuktitut.

    Thanks Cancross,
But I think most of those websites are aimed at older kids; either because of content (learning to count or ABC...), or at the very least because they involve being able to use keyboard and mouse. As of now, my son's abilities at operating a mouse or a touch screen are somewhat erratic still... Games like Bluecowgames', on the other hand, would suit a one and a half year old.
Also, I don't plan to make the PB a permanent toy : more something to bring along when we have to wait at the clinic or similar situations where he can't run around exploring.
In any case, I've put your site in my bookmarks for the future. So thanks !

    ...
    Enyigma,

I could be wrong here, but I'm not sure Quebec's linguistic situation really needs to be explained to someone named "molson0"...
