The android player is on always because the google apps are designed to be integrated. so as i understand it, there is effectivly a shell version of android running alongside the PB software. we all know how long it takes the Playbook and Android devices to boot up, imagine waiting even half that time every time you clicked to open an android app. it would make the system unusable.
