- It's not stupid, this is what forums are for! The PlayBook has the ability to "tether"/"bridge" (quotes because we aren't quite sure how that works) with any BlackBerry smartphone OS 5.0+ and use that 3G data connection. There is also the option of buying the 3G+Wifi (no announced carriers) for 3G data without a BlackBerry or the 4G+Wifi version (Sprint 4G for this summer).

Playbook will likely have an app to make it simple, but even without it...its a pretty simple process to setup a dial-up networking connection over bluetooth or usb.

Waiting for a 3G model is just a per-user preference. I will not, as i do not want to pay for the extra data. However, if you want to you can. Bell hasn't announced that they will carry a 3G PlayBook either. This coming Monday is the Mobile World Congress where RIM will be there showing off the PlayBook, so we are hoping that some sort of clarification will happen there. Fingers crossed for price and release date.02-11-11 08:51 PMLike 0 -
i tether using my Torch and my Macbook PRO.
initial set up takes about less than 3 minutes then after that it's like clicking an icon and waiting for it to load.02-11-11 09:11 PMLike 0 -

02-11-11 09:15 PMLike 0 - Its not bad, I find that when I tether my netbook to my Torch, I can get like 100 kb/sec downloads off hotfile. Most webpages load pretty quickly, though slower than on my home wireless network. For on the road access, it works really well over bluetooth. Its great for accessing my vpn during the day or even using remote desktop to my home machine.

you should look at your Bell Data Plan before trying anything
With Bell's unlimited data plans they charge for most tethering options,
but when you have a Limited data plan such as their 1GB plan, they don't charge for tethering.
I am impressed you have a GSM blackberry on an unlimited dataplan, when Bell Launched the HSPA network they started killing off the Unlimited data plans,02-15-11 10:34 AMLike 0 -
and I told them if they changed my plan when I move to the torch I am leaving them, they wouldn't make any concessions so I am now a Rogers Customer for my primary phone
Hold that Unlimited Plan as long as you can! and I hope you find a way to "beat the system"02-15-11 10:59 AMLike 0
