I want to use my own email but I cant find an application to use it.

How do you use email if you dont have a BB phone to bridge and dont wanna use
gmail, hotmail, aol or Yahoo mail....????

I need a generic one I can put the host info into to download...

I was told I could do that on the playbook...?

Most service providers have webmail. You can access your own email account via webmail. Go to your service providers home page and access from there.

Direct answer to your query: No you cannot access your emails the way you have described, without a BB bridged or using the webpages of the email providers. Your description is of the native email option, which the PB currently lacks, but this feature will be included in Feb, which isnt far away.

You could install the developer beta OS and install an android email program which some people have done.

WARNING: The beta is just that a beta and a developer beta at that. Some programs do not work and will not work and some features will not work either. Do so at your own risk and backup before doing so.

This time, Rim has more or less promised that it will be here in Feb. As opposed to the earlier INTIMATIONS it would be here in June, Sept, Oct, etc.

Lampoon, why don't you sideload aMail, this is an email client developed in Flex which was not approved by the app world, but you can install by sideloading it. Here is the bar file. try it out

If you do not know sideloading I just posted a little how to a minute ago: http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...oading-675552/

I have used free version of Email Hosting Services | Pick Up Your Email | mail2web.com often with my PDA and had good results. With an optimized Webmail interface for PDA devices and WAP enabled mobile phones, you can check your email from anywhere where you can get Internet access or a cell phone signal. To go to the moble site go to http://mail2web.com/pda.

I see now they have a blackberry version that maybe worth looking into, not sure if it will work with playbook or not BlackBerry | mail2web.com

You can get a 60 day free trial that might get you close to the february BB update.

I typed too soon. I cant get it to recognize any settings. Ive verified everything. It just doesnt work. Rats. On the plus side Angry Birds appears to work!

Ive installed twice and even paid the $2.99 to activate it. nothing.

I will go look at mail2web. Thanks for the input.
