they never said that BB10 would come to PB on launch. it sucks, but it wasnt promised
Yes because it didn't exist at launch. They have since said numerous times (including today) that all PlayBook's will be updated to BlackBerry10.

OP it will be okay. They will produce BlackBerry10 for PlayBook but it won't be today or tomorrow. Just hang tight and enjoy it for what it does now. Who knows, you may finally get BlackBerry10 on PLAYBOOK and wish you had 2.1 back.

    What other solutions?

There is only one solution --- RIM has to make BB10 phones in order to survive. It has to pass carrier certification which it hasn't in the US. It has to finish QWERTY version of the OS which it isn't finished yet. It has to make the currently OS 10 portrait only calender app and map app to run in landscape mode in OS 10.1.

You ARE the distraction. A couple of months from now, you will have more BB10 smartphone users than Playbook users --- which is not that hard to do because there is only 1.5 million Playbooks sold. From the developers' point of view, it's more important for BB10 smartphones to launch as soon as possible.
    _______

I agree with the above. BBRY needs to concentrate on smartphones first. Enhancements to PB will come. So, sorry, I can't sign this petition.

I feel your pain, honestly I do. I'm as anxious as the next person to play with BB10, but you have to realise, in fact you seem to recognise, that PlayBook right now is a distraction, a drag, on BlackBerry's ultimate success. The task for Heins and company right now is a quick turnaround of BlackBerry's fortunes, and market share, and cool factor. When, or maybe if, if you accept what some observers say, Blackberry returns to the sort of cach it used to have, then not only will your (and my) PlayBook be itself more successful and desirable, but BlackBerry will still be around to improve on these and other innovations.

I know, patience is hard, and a scarce commodity in the 21st century (and I have a contract to work out before I can upgrade to BB10, so as I say, I feel your pain) but let's let Heins & Co finish this before taking on the next challenge.

hah. funny, but doubtful... 2.1 is only good in comparison to earlier builds, and 10 dictates whether we should stay or we should go now; if I stay there will be trouble, if I go there may be double

heres a novel idea....relaese the PB update now in the US and get us excited about the new changes...ie BB world( old app world) and all the peek and flow, camera app and all the lickies and chewies that will want us to buy the Z10 when it becomes available in the US
Not just the US! Everywhere too keep all current users excited and keep the user base up while some wait for the Z10 In their area and some wait for Q10 overall. would have liked to see these come out together or in quick succession.

Imagine that, they launched the Z10 & the Q10 today, but didn't mention the PB. How dare they! We should write a letter!!! Get me my letter writing pants!

I still think we should try the White House petition approach...
Good one. I was involved in several petitions of late that got over 100,000 signatures and our socialist president said "um, no" and threw it away and went off on another $40 million taxpayer paid vacation.

If i thought a letter to Thorsten would have any positive effect I would join in. Fact is, if the massive destruction of share holder value that blackberry has seen in the last few weeks didnt result in share holders revolting for real change, then I dont think a letter while help.

So far nearly all of the apps on offer for bb10 are just ports from the PB anyway, and I read that 40% are android. Maybe by the time it comes to the PB the larger user base that comes with the phones will convince the big devs to make apps for us, but they probably wont be optimised for the PBs bigger screen. I can wait.

Troll is trolling. Playbook will indeed see BB10. Considering playbook's current OS is essentially an early build of BB10 OS along with the fact that it's been confirmed by reliable sources on multiple occasions it's not really even a discussion, stop being stupid.

Playbook will never see BB10 .

Of course the phone are more important (for RIM), no issues with that. But are you happy with being low in their list of priorities and probably going even lower later on? As you say, there aren't that many Playbooks out there. That makes the business unattractive for RIM. On the other hand, if we got the freedom to install another Linux based OS we would relieve RIM from the trouble and have much better chances of getting a solid range of apps available.
Honestly, I think you'd be happier just buying a new Android tablet. If you want to play with Android or variants of Linux, there are plenty of cheap and powerful tablets that you buy from overseas (eg. China). The new generation of those tablets and phones are light years ahead of the old horrible knock-off stuff, and they're ideal for rooting and having a play around with.

The Playbook had its day and continues to be an extremely useful and pleasurable tablet. But make no mistake: Blackberry has to focus on its new phones and BB10 now. Not to sound overly dramatic, but its very survival is at stake, and if it takes its eyes off its real priorities, there will be trouble. BB10 will come to the Playbook, just be patient. Another thing to consider: do you really want to deal with the inevitable huge number of bugs and issues that will fester after a huge OS upgrade?

Hey guys, just an update. My proposal only got 16 'votes', so I guess it isn't going anywhere fast (just like the PB).

As BB is unlikely to open things up a bit, unless someone finds a vulnerability in the PB, we will never have an XDA-style development community to spice up our tablet. Since the BB10 lauch I've found myself spending more time playing with my old Samsung Galaxy S and installed the Cyanogenmod hacked OS, which is like having a brand new phone with the latest software.

If only we had such freedom with this great piece of hardware that the PB is...

I'll be back to check what the BB militia have to say to this :-)
