I have a 64 GB WIFI playbook, and am considering getting a 32 GB 4G LTE version for faster speed (1.5 gHz). Wondering if this version requires a data plan or will it work without one (just like my current playbook)?

A little bit more clock speed won't make a PlayBook any better.

Or yes it will for live streaming TV. I can see the difference between the passport and z30 and the improvement in processor speed is only 2.2G/1.7G, not 1.5G/1G.
    Hardware matters for identical software.

That's right it can run hardly any software to speak of much faster!

I did the same thing as the OP, bought an LTE PlayBook for the faster processor. Wasn't worth it, in reality it's only a little faster in real world use, a few seconds here and there saved. When I first used it I couldn't tell the difference at all, I had to put it side by side with the WiFi only PlayBook to be able to tell and it's not a big difference. Oh and the LTE screen colours are yellowish compared to the WiFi model.

How fast do you want it? I Its pretty decent even compared to today's midrange Androids.

It's reasonable as long as the app isn't made in Adobe Air which lags like a one legged dog in treacle. Unfortunately the whole OS UI is made in Adobe Air and then browser too.

Those midrange Androids of today can also lag due to vendor bloatware. Put stock Android on them and they fly. Shame we can't improve the PlayBook the same way by replacing Adobe Air OS components.

I had bought a LTE PB solely so I could get a data plan, but because it can use Wifi, I ended up cancelling my data plan after only a few months. Free Wifi at school which is where I use my PB the most, so the data plan became an unnecessary but nice convenience. I'll tell you what wasn't convenient though, but it may be due to perhaps I received a damaged PB or what...I constantly had connection errors where my PB would tell me it couldn't read/find the SIM. I had to keep taking out the SIM, reinserting, restarting my PB to where it became ridiculous and frustrating. I don't know if I just got a lemon or maybe the sales rep who activated my data plan damaged it when putting in the SIM...don't know.

Even without the SIM, the PB is Wifi capable and therefore still functions without a SIM. Since I mainly use my PB at school, I use my university's Wifi to connect to the Internet.

I meant, Do you get the problem without the SIM installed?
If the answer is no the solution is to remove the SIM.
