So recently I've been pulling apart various Playbooks and there seems to be a few variances in the parts they use. Check these out and discuss!

    Version 1- Dated 21/11 Rev:3H
Long Box code on Flat Ribbon, Newer Style Battery, Coloured Barcode with Memory Capacity size, Speaker information printed below center sponge

    Version 2 - Dated 18/11 Rev:3H
Small Box Code on Ribbon's connector, Coloured Barcode w/o Memory Capacity Size, Newer Style Battery, Speaker information printed below center sponge

    Version 3 - Dated 15/11 Rev:3H
Small Box Code on Ribbon's Connector, Coloured Barcode w/o Memory Capacity Size , Older Style Battery, Speaker information printed below center sponge

    Version 4 - Dated 33/11 Rev:3H ??????????????????????
Long Box code on Flat Ribbon, Greenish/Blue plastic cover in center of batteries, Different coloured barcode with Capacity info, Speaker information printed below center sponge

    Version 5 - Dated 05/11 Rev:3H

Sadly no, they were purchased (versions 1-4) without original boxes or motherboards so no way I can tell. I've been transplanting a working motherboard into each one just to test and make sure that everything is working. All I know is the batteries with the vertical printed predates the ones with horizontal printing.

*edit Version 5 Came back to me via RMA recently. Although it sports an older battery (probably because I bought my playbook last Christmas) it's the only one i've seen that has information printed in the center of the speakers and is lacking the sponge in the center.

I'm confused: I thought that PlayBook has 5300 mAh battery but on these photos it's actually 5400 mAh. So what's correct then?

I guess what you see in the pics is correct. All 10+ infront of me have 5400 mAH batteries

If you actually notice... the Older Style batteries are 5400mAH (19.98 Wh) while the Newer Style batteries are 5400mAH (20Wh)

Very interesting, especially to those of us who have opened our PBs for one reason or another. As technology advances and economies of scale change, RIM clearly switched to better and/or less expensive batteries and digitizers.

Two suggestions: 1. Sort your versions by date code, so that a quick scroll can see RIM's changes in chronological order. 2. List the first eight digits of the serial number for each, and/or the first four digits of the PIN---perhaps some correlation can be gleaned.
