I'm thinking about returning to BB after a stint with an EVO. I miss the simplicity of the BB phone and messaging but love the internet browsing experience on the EVO. A solution may be to purchase an older BB (maybe Tour 9630) and then a playbook for the richer browser and media experience. I wanted to confirm though that the bridge feature will work with an older BB such as the 9630?

If I purchase tether I can use the BB as a wifi hotspot like I do with my EVO and wireless tether app so the Playbook can browse the net via the BB/Tether?

    Thanks

if the bb can run OS 5 or 6, bridge will work. Just don't count on speed or rich experience when bridged though, it's a bit slow.

in regards to tethering, the pb has built in tethering to a bb or any wifi hotspot device can conbect to.

Thanks. Used 9630's aren't that much cheaper than 9650's so it's probably worth going for the newer model.

    Correct. I believe 9650 can run os6. The 9630cannot.

Bridge works on OS5, yes that's true.
But it also works with my old Curve 8330, the only curve with OS5 support. (not the 8330m).

i think what you need to watch is the application memory available to you on BB after installing the bridge app. it gulps a decent amount of memory. so if you get an older BB, thats going to make your bridge experience slow.

i use a Bold 9700 and recently upgraded to OS6. noticed a steep drop in available application memory and after installing the bridge app, it dropped further. now my 9700 is way slower and i have to do regular hard reset to keep things going.

i'm sure my bridge experience is not as fast as it should be cos of this
