    Have you tied to see if there is anything in the charge port or inspect it for physical damage first?

    I suppose someone who repairs phone could replace micro usb connector.

    Have you given thought to purchasing a rapid charger? That might be cheaper than having the port repaired. Unfortunately that wont be of much use to transfer data-video's-etc. but you could always use blue tooth.

    One common thing that happens to that port is that the connector has been inserted upside down. This forces the center tab down and it will no longer connect. When you look a the port there needs to be a small gap below that center terminal. You can compare to the charger end of the charged. If it's pushed all the way down you can take a tiny screw driver and very gently lift it into position. It does not go the center but only about 25% from the bottom. This assumes no physical damage.
    A rapid charger or Pod is a good idea. Either available for $20 on ShopCrackberry or even less on Amazon.
