Can I connect my PB to the internet via the USB connection on my laptop?
No..................
Surprisingly, once I converted a useless Windows Netbook to Ubuntu Linux, I can make the connection. I'm not sure if this ability was part of the initial Linux package or one of the add-ons I loaded. I suppose that because Android is a form of Linux there may be something about the Kernel. Weird.
Whoops, I just re-read the OP's question, my response would be, "Why not just connect through the built in WIFI?
To tonyrenier because I'm in an area without WiFi...
Maybe Cushie doesn't have a WLAN/Wifi Network? Lets assume Cable LAN.
My Opinion: Using USB cable for Internet-Access is unlikely. How about a Wifi Direct connection between PB and Notebook, then use Windows Network Bridge to access Internet? Doesn anybody have background? Or PB --Bluetooth Bridge--> Notebook --> Internet?
Cushie, you will need to give us more info for us to help ... What OS does your Notebook have, how do you access Internet with your NB, Does your NB have Wifi and/or Bluetooth module?

Double post, see below.
I am using doing this when I want to use hidemy*** as a proxy they don't have a playbook client so I run it on PC. Then I use connectify pro to set up a PC hotspot. You could just run connectify for the hotspot. It costs $30, I couldn't get the free version to bridge to the lan connection so splashed out for the product. Apparently there is a way to do it in windows 7 without additional software but I couldn't get it working. The software makes changes and maintenance simple.
Agree with djenkins6's suggestion of Connectify to create a wifi hotspot. I use it sometimes at hotels that overcharge for Internet per device.
The free version will work fine to create a wifi hotspot from a LAN connection.
I use a portable Access Point / Router when travelling.
The one I've got is a Zonet ZSR4174WE but there are many others. It was less than $30.00.
Once this is connected you have access for all of your wireless devices.
Why not turn your laptop into a WiFi hotspot? I'd give it a go, but I don't have a laptop.

Just downloaded connectify lite and set it up on my HP dm1-4010us lap top running windows 7 64 bit. I am on Crackberry through this connection. The laptop is connected to the ZyXEL travel router. Signal is -38 dBm and rate is 65 Mbps. Took me about 10 minutes.
Why aren't you just connecting through your ZyXEL travel router, or was connectify just an experiment?
I see the ZyXEL is $19.99 at Amazon.
Still using the ZyXEL. It was the laptops connection to the internet which the connectify was using. Thus I had two wireless networks available at the same time. So it was an experiment. Need to see if it can be used with an xP machine which is connected by RJ45 to modem. Windows 7 has the ability to use the wifi card in a dual mode. This is not available in Vista or xP. Thus the writeup on Connectify says you need two cards for full operation but it is possible to use in an ad hoc manner. I need to try this out and see exactly what this means. The Pro version now priced at $30 offers additional capabilities.
If you have a bb phone, yes you can.
Connect the BB phone to your laptop and the BB phone will use the laptop's internet connection.
Now fire up your PB and bridge will take care of everything.
That really depends,
What is the operating system on your laptop?
How does your laptop connect to the internet?
I use my laptop as a hotspot all the time. My laptop has an ethernet port, as wireless card and a virtual wireless connection (Windows 7). I have set up an access point using the virtual connection and share my internet connection on either the wired or wireless connection depending on what I am using at the time.
If your laptop does not have a virtual connection and you connect using ethernet you should be able to set up a hotspot using the wireless card.
If you have one of the two scenarios I will search for a link explaining how to set it up.
