It would be very helpful to everyone if someone knows or could convey some information to all of us about what is coming from RIM regarding updates, fixes, etc.

I find it very unusual that with so many of us purchasing, returning, walking the fence line that the company cannot release some type of information regarding fixes, etc.

I understand RIM is not beholden to Crackberry, however, anyone who is tuned into there device does hover here.

I realize and read all the posts, problems, work arounds, yada. However, if I ran my business as RIM seems to I would have been gone within the first year.

I am a committed BB user, buy things first day out. I have to admit this PB thing is really unusual IMHO.

not really as bad as you make out to be if you are having problems with your playbook call rim directly or search knowledge based info on there website. as you stated rim is not beholden to crackberry they have their own website for releasing information on fixes.

on another note this is a brand new OS for everyone (RIM customer support, RIM technical specialists, crackberry users) i think everyone is trying to figure everything out. the OS is pretty much 2 weeks old give sometime to compile the problems and figure out solutions. Once you find a glitch RIM is not going to shoot you over an update in 5 minutes. That is not how thing with an tech company not matter how much you want it to be. Windows release service packs all the time you just cannot know what issues are going to creep up during real world use.

First off, I make no excuses, or apologies for RIM and how they run their business. I pay my money and expect a product to function on day one just like most people. However, in the Consumer market there are always lots of people who are, as you so eloquently put it - " purchasing, returning, walking the fence line..".

If you truly run a business then I would expect you to know that there is an almost zero percent chance that anyone outside of RIM would truly know much about what is coming. Any multi-billion$ corporation tries to prioritize their efforts based on quantifiable metrics, like how many are being sold, returned and why.

My 2cents (with no real data) is that RIM has good sales of the PB and suffer in the press from 2 real problems:
    1. Everyone wants to compare it to the IPad.
    2. Blackberry users are more technically astute and demanding than Apple users.

#1 - No email, etc.. without the Bridge connection to a BB. What are non-BB users supposed to do? etc, etc... Funny, this was THE MAIN draw to me. I have no intention of paying for another cellular data connection when I have a BB in my pocket. Now it gets phrased as a negative?
My answer - Buy an IPad, get a 3G contract and AT&T thanks you very much.

#2 - Tough crowd! If the Apple crowd where nearly this tough the IPad would be in the toy box with the Newton. (look it up, if you are too young or forgetful) The good part is that so far this has not slowed RIM's growth, since it seems to be another example of the vocal minority pretending to be the quiety majority.

I understand all the points of new software, Microsoft, etc.

If I can just point to the bridge portion only. This is the reason BB users bought the PB in the first place and it is the point of concern.

    This is not rocket science.

Research in Motion may just be keeping it all secret so they have something to announce at their big conference/convention that starts tomorrow.

Not me, I bought it because i wanted a tablet. I have extremely high hopes for this. the bridge was like getting something extra, it was the browser was announced just before launch. other wise i was like ohhh cool i can do this through the bridge, but i like the browser thats sexy and ohhh look at the gaming enviroment on need for speed. time to harass developers, and omg that screen shows movies sooo sexy. what im getting at is i didn't put much emphasis on the bridge.

So I just returned my PlayBook to FutureShop and exchanged it for a brand new one, so I could get another 14 days to decide whether or not I'm going to keep it.

I was chatting the guy there about the Playbook returns and he said "We've had more PlayBook returns than any other tablet/phone device in history. He wasn't the least bit suprised to see another one" I probed a little more about the main reasons for return and he said it was mostly bridge or screen issues.

So RIM has 14 more days to convince me to keep or it that will be it.

I've seen posts and press releases about how sales are higher than expected but what about the return rate?

Rim and BlackBerry's are known for email, bbm, business, and PlayBook was to have this great bridge.

Rim chose to launch the new PB with all not installed at or not working!

Makes you wonder what the big update you installed when you first powered on fixed!

I want bridge or tether simple as that. I bought because of that function. RIM PLEASE CHARM US!

Not really. Anyone who has ever bought anything knows that advances are made and bugs discovered, or fixed while the units are being mass produced and shipped to market. If you buy a new piece of hardware, do you not check the website for the latest drivers? Fresh installation of Windows? No automatic updates? Please....lol

Everything about the PB rocks with exception of bridge browser. Typing is sweet, screen is sweet, size not bad.

Full utilization out of box was expected. Updates expected.

I was hoping that my PB would serve me as my Torch has.....as expected!

Agree, its a great product. I really like my Playbook, and have nothing really to complain about. The updates will come, don't worry. Also, manage your "update expectations". overall, if you like the device, keep it, if not, incremental updates probably won't satisfy you, might be best to just return it and buy an ipad.

Ive had ipad for along time. Bought it when Pb was a year out.

Want my playbook to work as expected. We all waited a long time. Managing my expectations are what i do with people not 600 dollar high end devices! Would we like televisions be sold with on two working hdmi iputs out of four working? I think not. I dont want to banter this point its not enjoyable just a bit frustrating.
