You can use the PlayBook on any network as long as it's unlocked.

The Playbook LTE (at least the one with LTE band 4) also has UMTS 1700 and 1900 bands. These are the three high speed data bands TMO is currently using.

OP, make sure you get a data-only SIM card, and it's the right size (micro SIM.)

Edit: if you are a TMO voice customer, you could just tether your phone. If you're a Simple Choice customer, tethering is included on all plans.

Yes, but 3g only, go into store and ask for a payg micro sim, top up 20 and text 6monthweb I think the number is 441 but they'll tell you instore, then pop it into the playbook and away you go, allowance is 1gb a month so use wifi where you can, well worth it though, and the lte playbook is quicker than the wifi one, all of the above is referring to the UK market, I hope it's of some help, there are some other threads on this with useful advice, anything from 3 won't work but I think all other networks are ok

Thanks for all the info!!!! I get wideband were I live, just outside of Detroit. Crazy speeds. Should be interesting to see the reaction when I tell them it's for a playbook. :-)

If you are in Detroit, Google around to see where T-Mobile has gotten ahold of some 700MHz spectrum... once they launch LTE in that band you would presumably be able to get it!!

I know they have a large 700MHz chunk they bought in the upper portion of the lower peninsula, but you'd have to dig to see where else is ready to go!!

That 700 MHz band 12 network won't be deployed for a while. And it won't work, because the PB has 700 MHz band 17. Band 17's a subset of band 12, but since the PB's packing band 12, it won't work. There aren't any band 12 tablets out yet (and just one phone, as far as I'm aware.)
