A website that I use to get a majority of my work done on a daily basis using Microsoft Silverlight for its video and graphics. Will I be able to download Silverlight to the PB?

as dsquared said its going to be upto ms and rim but i have heard netflix is working on an app for the playbook so thats a good sign (tho it being an app they probably won't be using silverlight but who knows until it comes out).

This would be EXTREMELY foolish on RIM's part. Many business applications use Silverlight to get access into a browser.

With RIM getting cozy with MS for cloud stuff, Silverlight should be very high on their list. Also the iPad 2 will be supporting Silverlight and Android has some silverlight apps.

RIM needs to stop depending on their hardware alone for marketplace dominance. BB PlayBook has like 8 avenues for development, there is NO REASON AT ALL RIM Should be doing anything but encouraging all development on this platform. If they do not, this PlayBook venture will fail. I am already getting a little tired of the pack in apps, but I am patiently waiting. If I was a Droid fan or an Apple fan I wouldn't even own the thing. RIM needs to put something on this tablet that makes Apple and Droid guys turn their heads.

Apple and Android are really only a software update from matching RIM on Push technology. RIM has a great piece of hardware out right now but if people don't get apps on this thing soon, the Xoom 2 / iPad 3 or TheHumanCentiPad (LOL) will be here before you know it and make our PlayBooks look like a pocket calculator.

I thought I remember some member on this forum saying he was answering a survey from RIM and one of the questions was if he would like to see Silverlight support added on the Playbook.

I guess, we really need to wait for that "sweet" upgrade... nobody can really tell since even the reliable "source" was silence...

But I do agree, it'll be a great thing...

I wish I wish I wish.... Silverlight would MAKE my day and totally energize my playbook experience.

As it stands, my invoicing software I use has an app for android and ipad... Which makes my pb suck for my business

Silver light is not supported on pb... Which makes my pb suck for my business

And I don't have native email... Which makes my pb suck for my business...

From what I heard even Microsoft is using it less and less, so I doubt that it will come to the PlayBook. But ya never know, crazier things have happened.

Well we have gotten a few more apps still missing native stuff. We will see what PB 2.0 is all about. Even for not having a ton of apps the tablet is still hella useful.

For 90% of people out there, Netflix is the only reason they want it on their mobile device.

The issue is Netflix and their licensing deals they have with the movie studios. Netflix had agreed to terms with the PC/laptop streaming but the movie studios want even more money from mobile devices such as tablets.

It's a very tricky arrangement in order to put Silverlight into the playbook. Because even if it were implemented, Netflix would be forced to block users on the playbook trying to stream netflix movies (like hulu blocks all mobile devices). The TouchPad worked for a while with Hulu but once the firesales took place and the amount of users exploded, Hulu blocked Touchpad owners from viewing.

As much as I hate the idea of Silverlight (MS basically trying to mess things up with their own protocols/standards/software), it is used on enough sites that RIM should be supporting it on the Playbook. If it supported it I wouldn't be wanting for a Netflix app, I'd be able to watch the Rubgy World Cup package I bought from Universal Sports on my Playbook HDMI'd to my TV, etc. Full web should include Silverlight, not just Flash.
