The camera on my Playbook is alerting me with the 4001 error. The screen is just blank and I can use it to take any picture. The camera works fine in Video Chat which shows the camera is not damaged. Going through some threads I discovered BlackBerry has accepted responsibility for the error and will need the Playbook to be sent back to them for repairs but I my case, there is no way I can send it back (not all of us are living in countries like UK, USA and Canada ).
My request is actually this, is there any camera app that can do the job of taking picture and recording videos?

Are both cameras out in the camera app? Video chat uses the front facing camera, while the camera app usually defaults to the rear facing one. In any event, you can try using the android camera app, which is already on your playbook. To access it, try installing Quick App Manager from app world. Then open the app, tap on the camera icon, then tap open. See if it works.

If it's not the hardware, "Advanced Camera" is a good app.
