16GB, bulge, wobble, and stuck pixel. Not good.

It's a sign of nothing. Nothing will come of it. Nothing to be concerned about. If it wobbles on a flat surface and that is unacceptable to you then try an exchange.
I'll ignore alot of things but not misinformation.
Looks like you know something. If you do please share, rather than saying bulge is nothing. It's not nothing, it's a bulge.

If you can prove it is purely cosmetic defect, then I would agree. Well if it's not a cosmetic defect, it's a functional defect.

The bb emblem is stamped or embossed or however they put it there. Unless it is huge and big hindrance or cracked there should be no problem. Does every car come off of the line with every door, hood, trunk, fenders etc. perfectly inline? Heck no. Does that make them bad and worthy of returning? Just try it once.

I have disassembled a playbook with a large buldge. There is a gap between the plastic and the CPU. The buldge stays theres even when the rear cover is removed. It's not a matter of internals pushing out. Again nothing to worry about. Cosmetic

Well said. That's what I wanted to hear. But I still don't consider what I said "misinformation" based on what I've seen.

So the bulge is purely cosmetic. One case doesn't prove all but it seems more like it.

Yes, if it is bad enough that it's noticeable - which could lead to water leaks and noise.

Bottom line - the case should NOT have a bulge even it is merely cosmetic. But a small one is not an issue for most. But if the wobble makes it hard to type when naked, then it should be replaced.

32g: no bulge throughout its short but abusive life. 64g: slight bulge, not enough to see but makes the tablet a good board game spinner, straight out of the box (or at least after the first charge).

Does a part of the logo stick through the inside part of the case? Maybe removing the case and using a good hammer would flatten it.

The process of stamping/staking the BB logo onto a piece of rubber or rubberized material will/can cause the material to "move" under the object being stamped. This is what is causing the bulge.

Heat from use/charging "might" cause a small increase of perceived bulging, but 98 percent of it is from the staking/stamping of the BB logo onto/into the material.

No functionality issues whatsoever. Just a fly buzzing around one's head........

Hey, some folks could use their ipads as the hammer!

Obviously, something in the manufacturing process is askew allowing the "plastic" housing material to deform as it hardens. Hmmm - do they make viagra in the same plant?

That makes sense. Perhaps the machine that stamps the logo was set at too high a pressure for awhile and curved the metal back--it is metal correct? Some are saying the back is plastic.

Not sure about a good hammer but if it's anything like a bad hammer I would say no. Inside cover has some tape on it but judging from the embossing it is pressed in from the back. Can't say for sure. Plastic does have some memory. Next time I take it off I'll try some heat. That won't happen unless it breaks.

Ah, I always thought the back was metal. I was kidding about the hammer--no way I'd take my PB apart and hammer the back.

Just wanted to report that my PB 16gb + 32gb purchased separately four months apart have perfectly flat Rim logo backs. The power button is improved on the latest PB and if there was a slight bulge a decent case could cover that.

my new 16gb had a bulge right out of the box and doesn't lay flat on a table. Never thought about it until I read this thread.

people saying its nothing to worry about need to stop saying that, because it just might be. RIM has said that in newer batches the back is slightly, less than a mm, bigger than at first, to facilitate batter cooling. but. if you have the buldge it can get worse, like mine. now the cpu is the thing under the logo and if the buldge is growing because of cpu heat that is a very big deal indeed. my 16 gig model sat flat on the kitchen counter when new but it now wobbles when i type on it in the same spot. not good, and not something to just let slide, you will regret it later.

    16gb = no bulge
returned it for a 32gb last night
    32gb large bulge
    2nd 32gb = med bulge
3rd 32gb = slight bulge but lays almost flat

I was pretty disappointed to have to try 3 different 32gbs to get one that was almost perfect.

But man I Love my Playbook.

Just got my 32 today (refurb) & it has a slight bulge in back. I'll use it as such for a few weeks & if it drives me crazy, I'll exchange it.

Thanks for all of the input on the bulge, Crackheads!
