Hi, I am a newbie, big time.
My playbook is only 6 weeks old and I can no longer charge it with the included chargers, it will not go in all the way. I only plugged it in and out not even once a day and was always careful. Brought it back to Best buy, they told me the usb port was bent, would not fix it or exchange it. Told me to deal with RIM. I bought a rapid charger so I at least can use it. Works fantastic! Called Rim and they told me they would send me a box, then I send the playbook back . They would fix it and then send it back to me, all free of charge. Or so they say.
My question is, do I really need to send it back? I can use it fine now, but I will not be able to connect it to my main computer through that broken port. Can I get updates, especially that big one that is coming up through wi-fi? Sorry if this is a really stupid question. Any advice would be great!
    thanks!

send it back for repair that's the best thing to do.
you can get updates via WIFI, but you can't acces the harddrive anymore,
from your pb by plugging it in and DM etc. send it back they will repair it for you.

You can definitely get the update through WiFi...

I think the only reason you'd want to hold off returning it, however, is to have the chance to get 2.0 and play for a while, before then returning it for repair. If you're anxious and don't want to miss out on the fun, that seems reasonable, though for your sake I hope it comes out soon.

I wouldn't just keep a unit that had a physically damaged connector, however, if RIM's offering to replace/repair it. Long term I think you'd just get annoyed at that defect.

There's a good chance RIM will send you a new one rather then repair your unit. I would send it back post haste.

Yes! Please send it back post haste... The more they see the usb port needs a redesign, the faster they will do something about it.

I have to look VERY closely when using the usb port and not get it in the HDMI port... hard to do in low lighting, unless you have memorized which is which.

That bent usb port defect would really annoy me. Personally, if RIM is offering to fix it.or replace it. I would send it back.

They'll fix it for sure. With port damage they will most likely repair/replace the existing ports on your tablet and will not replace it. Its a fairly smooth process! And they cover shipping! Besides when 2.0 comes out, you wanna be sure that you can access the computer for that software release and any subsequent ones from there on out. You never know what might happen and if any software issues come up you would most likely need the computer to do a reload.

RIM contact details provided by user F2 at the bottom of this post

Not sure if BB/RIM still do repairs even under warranty. You may have to use a local phone repair shop. if you say roughly where you are you might get some reccomendations
